TRY THIS HOT WEATHER FOOD TIP FOR YOUR DOG! 🥵☀️🐕
Like us, our dogs lose fluids and electrolytes in hot weather or while exercising. Without sufficient fluid intake they can easily become dehydrated. However, dehydration can also be a concern when your dog has bouts of vomiting and diarrhea or simply won’t drink enough water.
One great way to rehydrate your pets are cucumbers! 🥒 Made up of 95% water, this very low-calorie food makes a terrific crunchy snack for your pup. This “fruit” is also great for providing vitamins C and K as well as electrolytes such as magnesium, calcium, potassium and phosphorous. They also contain an antioxidant called “cucurbitacin,” which has been shown to inhibit the activity of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), a well-studied pro-inflammatory enzyme, and according to researchers may help help stop cancer cells from reproducing.
🥒How to feed: When possible, buy organic or spray-free cucumbers. Cut into bite-size pieces appropriate for your dog’s size. Feed as a treat or add to your dog’s food. You can offer with the peel on or off.
💧To make a refreshing electrolyte-infused drink, soak cucumbers in water overnight. Remove cucumbers and offer the water to your pup. Whenever adding anything to your pet’s water bowl, always have a bowl of pure, clean water available as well.
