ALVIIIIIIINNNN, it’s almost time for the Pirate Cluster! Theodore, Alvin and Simon (well…Essay, Maisie and Skye) are very excited to announce that Draxen Farms will once again be offering the AKC Farm Dog Test at this year’s Treasure Coast Pirate Cluster at the St. Lucie Fairgrounds October 11th and 12th. Two passing tests under two different judges = a fancy new title for you and your dog! And luckily for you, we have two judges and are running both each day. Be sure to fill out the premium that’s attached below and check out what else the Cluster has to offer this year. The three little chipmunks (I mean Farm Princesses) will see you at the fairgrounds!

Dip here reminding everyone that this Saturday, August 16th, we are having our AKC Pre-Trial and AHBA Junior Herding Dog readiness evaluations. All breeds, including mixed breeds, are eligible to compete in AHBA trials. At this event you’ll be able to see how a PT/JHD is run in real time, learn the necessary skills to pass with your dog and have your dog evaluated so that a personalized training plan can be put into place. This fun event will start at 9:00-noon-ish and costs $30. Make sure to bring water (for you and your dogs) and a crate if you have one to keep your furry friend calm and comfortable while others are working. We’ve got an AWESOME update:
SO many people with mixed breed dogs have been asking us if they are eligible to compete in AKC herding trials, but unfortunately many are not able to. Luckily Oreo here decided to steal a thinking cap and found that ALL dogs over the age of 9 months are able to earn JHD (Junior Herding Dog) titles through the American Herding Breed Association (AHBA)! As a result of this enlightening information from Oreo, on August 16th not only will we be doing AKC PT readiness evaluations, but we will also be doing JHD readiness evaluations. These two trial tests involve all of the same elements, so the evaluation and components will work the same way and an individual training plan for you and your dog to work on will still be given. Now that we are training for both PT and JHD, spots are guaranteed to fill up fast, so be sure to reach out to Mike at 772-342-6125!

Exciting news! On August 16th, we will be hosting a “PT Readiness and Evaluation Day” for everyone who is interested in potentially earning an AKC PT (Pre Trial) herding title with their dog. You and your dog will be able to see PT demonstrations, understand the elements needed to earn a qualifying score at a trial, and participate in an evaluation of your dog’s current readiness level. Once evaluated, an individualized training program will be put in place to give you and your dog the best chance at a trial. If you are not sure if your dog is eligible to compete in AKC herding trials, please check the AKC website. Spots are going to fill up fast, so be sure to text Mike at 772-342-6125. Hey dog lovers! Dip here had his thinking cap on today and was really contemplating all of the ways that humans can have fun herding with their dogs. He came up with the idea of asking everyone’s humans if they would be interested in training to earn HT or PT AKC herding titles for their dogs here at the Farm. These lessons would be specifically tailored for each dog, based on their ability level, to train for AKC HT and PT trial tests. Dip used some human help to create a Google Form to see how much interest there is. If you think lessons for HT and PT would be fun, please fill out the form below. Dip promises to watch from a side field intently and cheer each dog on, while also offering constructive criticism and feedback!

Today, Levi, heir apparent to the rank of Farm King turned ONE! And what a sweet guy he is!
A native Tennessean from some pretty amazing lines, he is doing very well in his herding work. As he is learning, Levi is taking over some of the chores under the tutelage of his big brother Conor and big sister Essay.
Happy birthday, Young Levi - we know you will get special hugs and attention after today's work!

Please join us in wishing the HAPPIEST of birthdays to Farm Princess Essay who turns four today (HOW DID THAT HAPPEN???😱)! This little powerhouse is going strong, working well and taking some load off of the back of Conor who will be (**GASP**) eleven in August.
Happy birthday, you delicate, gorgeous, sweet, snuggy, loving little girlie - you are a warrior in the true sense of the word. Essay's Dad and her sister by another mother, Princess Skye, keep it all real so Essay can flourish and grow, living the Big Border Collie Life she so very much deserves.
Party on Girlfriend! "Herd" friends and gifts are arriving as we type!! Enjoy the spotlight, you earn its warmth every single day.

Yo, Dog Folk - the more you know. And if you are in SoFla and in need of a trainer for a difficult dog, do consider our buddy Alison of Complete Canine.
Unfortunately this law will not keep the idiots from being idiots, though it will clear a way for thorough prosecution of idiots with a clearer, more specific law.
On the flip side, accidents do happen and it never hurts to up your training game.

UPDATE: Banjo has a home! Thank you thank you everyone for sharing and finding Banjo a family!

URGENT HELP NEEDED!
Meet Banjo, a 1yr old cattle dog currently at the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast. Banjo was surrendered, through no fault of his own, two months ago and is having a difficult time adjusting to shelter life and is nervous and stressed in his kennel. Banjo is a very good boy, knows all of his commands, enjoys the outdoors and loves water! If you’re interested in meeting Banjo, he will be coming up to the Farm this Sunday for some fun with the sheep. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE share and help us find Banjo a home. This little guy is still so young and deserves a loving family. Thank you!
