"Ask the Seachem Certified Expert"
Q: "My aquarium plants keep turning brown and dying. Do I need special lights?"
Expert Answer from Emma, Seachem Platinum Certified Specialist:
"Brown, dying plants are usually telling you about water chemistry, not just lighting! As a Seachem Platinum Certified specialist, I see this weekly at The Fish Crew.
The Real Culprits:
💡 Iron deficiency - Plants need iron to stay green. Seachem Flourish provides bioavailable iron.
💡 Carbon limitation - Plants need CO2. Seachem Flourish Excel provides liquid carbon.
💡 Inconsistent fertilization - Plants need regular feeding, just like fish.
Lighting matters, but chemistry matters more. Even expensive lights won't save plants in poor water conditions.
Our Plant Success Formula:

Seachem Flourish (comprehensive plant fertilizer)
Flourish Excel (liquid carbon)
Consistent dosing schedule
Moderate lighting (6-8 hours daily)

We stock fresh live plants twice weekly - perfect timing for healthy, vibrant additions to your tank!
Free plant consultation when you visit! Our team can assess your setup and recommend the perfect plants for your lighting and experience level.

🐠 Meet the Team: Matt - Store Manager 🐠
Meet Matt, our dedicated Store Manager who has been the heart and soul of The Fish Crew since day one! Matt was here in May 2013 when the building was completely empty, helping to build The Fish Crew from the ground up into the thriving aquarium destination it is today.
🏆 Experience That Counts: With over 22 years in the aquarium industry (10 years at other aquarium stores before joining us, plus our 12 years together), Matt has seen it all! His background also includes retail management at big box stores, giving him the perfect blend of aquarium expertise and business knowledge.
🌱 His True Love: Live plants have always been Matt's passion! Until a few years ago, he maintained an incredible 20 tanks of live plants in his house - talk about dedication to the craft!
🐟 Where It All Started: Matt's aquarium journey began in 4th grade with a 10-gallon tank and his very first fish - a serpae tetra. From that humble beginning grew a lifelong passion that became his career!
💙 Discus Devotion: Matt's favorite fish are discus, and he was seriously into breeding them a few years back. His expertise with these challenging and beautiful fish shows his advanced skills in the hobby.
🔧 Behind the Scenes: You might not see Matt on the floor as much, but he's always busy ordering supplies and keeping our aquariums fully stocked with healthy, beautiful fish and plants. He's the engine that keeps everything running smoothly!
📈 Loving the Evolution: After all these years, Matt still gets excited about how the hobby and technology continue to evolve. His perspective on the industry's growth is invaluable to both our team and customers.
Matt's combination of deep experience, genuine passion, and dedication to excellence is what makes The Fish Crew the special place it is today! 🌊

"Ask the Seachem Certified Expert"
Q: "I just bought my first aquarium. How long do I have to wait before adding fish?"
Expert Answer from Emma, Seachem Platinum Certified Specialist:
"Congratulations on your new aquarium! This is the most important question new hobbyists ask, and getting it right means the difference between thriving fish and constant problems.
The Traditional Answer: 4-6 weeks for your tank to cycle naturally.
The Fish Crew Method: 24-48 hours with the right products and approach.
Here's how we set up tanks for success:
⚡ Day 1: Add Seachem Prime (removes chloramines) and Seed (adds beneficial bacteria)
⚡ Day 2: Test water parameters - we offer professional testing with our API AquaSpin system for $8
⚡ Day 3: Add 1-2 hardy fish like neon tetras (our most popular choice!)
Why this works: Seachem Seed contains live beneficial bacteria that immediately start processing fish waste. No waiting for bacteria to grow naturally.
Pro tip: Start with our beginner-friendly fish like neon tetras, cherry barbs, or corydoras catfish. They're forgiving and beautiful!
