Keep Halloween Sweet, But Safe for Your Pets!

Halloween candy might be a treat for us, but it can be dangerous or even toxic for pets!

🚫 Chocolate – All chocolate, but especially dark and baking chocolate, can cause vomiting, tremors, and deadly heart problems in dogs and cats. Keep it away!
🍭 Sugar-free candy – Many contain xylitol, an artificial sweetener that’s highly toxic and can lead to seizures or liver failure.
🍬 Candy wrappers – Foil and plastic wrappers can cause choking or blockages if swallowed.
🍫 Raisins – Even small amounts can cause kidney failure in dogs.

Keep your pets safe this Halloween:
✅ Store candy out of reach.
✅ Remind guests and kids not to share treats with pets.
✅ Keep your vet's number and the animal emergency clinic number handy, just in case.

🐾 Protect Your Pup with this critical vaccine!

Did you know the DAPP vaccine (also called the distemper vaccine) is one of the most important core vaccines for your dog?

This single shot helps protect against several serious diseases:

✨ Distemper – a highly contagious and often fatal virus that attacks the respiratory, gastrointestinal, and nervous systems.
✨ Adenovirus (Hepatitis) – causes severe liver damage and can be deadly.
✨ Parvovirus – a highly contagious virus that causes severe vomiting, diarrhea, and dehydration.

With heartfelt gratitude, we want to thank you—our loyal and wonderful clients—for your support over the years. It has been an incredible journey caring for your beloved pets and being a part of this amazing community.

After nearly 45 years of service, we are approaching a new chapter in the life of Seven Hills Animal Hospital. As many of you know, our long-time veterinarians, Dr. Randal Bradshaw, Dr. Sandra Tall, and Dr. Joanne Douglas, are entering retirement after many years of dedicated service. Their contributions to our hospital and the Lynchburg pet community have been extraordinary, and we are deeply grateful for their care and compassion.

With these transitions, and after much thoughtful consideration, we have decided to scale back our services and hours—but we are not closing our doors.

What’s changing?
We will be shifting our focus to become a Pet Wellness & Preventive Care Center, offering affordable, preventive, and routine care for healthy pets. This includes:
- Annual wellness exams
- Vaccinations
- Routine testing (such as heartworm, tick-borne diseases, and intestinal parasite screenings)
- Flea, tick, and heartworm prevention
- We will no longer offer services for sick or injured pets, surgical procedures, dental procedures, radiology (X-Rays), or emergency care. However, we are working closely with other local clinics to provide trusted referrals when needed.

What’s staying the same?
You’ll still see the familiar faces of our doctors and staff—just on a more limited schedule. And most importantly, we remain committed to providing compassionate, quality care for your pets.

While this is a significant change, we’re genuinely excited about the future. Our goal is to continue offering valuable, accessible care for the pets and families we cherish so much.

We’ll share more details soon. In the meantime, thank you for being part of our story—we’re honored to have been part of yours, and we look forward to seeing you and your pets in this next chapter.

Boarding - We WILL continue boarding your pets as well. While we are planning some renovations to the facility that may close the kennel for a few days here and there, we are working to schedule these changes around pets already scheduled with us this summer.
