We at All Creatures wish you a happy Memorial Day!
We hope that you enjoy the festivities today, and want to remind you of the things that can lead to an emergency visit with your pet.
Keep toxic scraps such as onions, garlic, raisins, avocados, chocolate, and anything containing xylitol out of paws reach.
Resist the puppy dog eyes as rib or steak bones, corn on the cob, and wooden or metal skewers can splinter or cause life-threatening intestinal blockages.
Support your pet's sobriety, even the smallest amounts of beer, wine, or cocktails can cause severe lethargy, vomiting, and coordination loss.
Secure pets away when you fire up that grill, hot coals, lighter fluid, and grill cleaners cause burns and gastrointestinal poisoning if a pet gets too close or licks up spills.
Protect yourself and your pets, human sunscreens and insect sprays can cause neurological issues, drolling, and vomiting. Keep pets away when using or seek pet safe products.
Citronella oils and torch fluids can cause gastrointestinal upset and aspiration if ingested.
Keep yourself and your pets cool. High temperatures can cause rapid dehydration and fatal heatstroke. Pugs, french bulldogs, and seniors are especially at risk. Never leave pets inside of a parked car.
Not all dogs can doggy paddle. Supervise your pets near water and use a pet life jacket on boats.
Keep the walks to the morning or after sunset. If pavement or sand is too hot for the back of your hand it is too hot for their paws!
Prepare for loud celebrations. Keep your pets in a quiet and secure indoor area with proper ID on them.
Remind guests you have pets! Keep them away from entries and exits as they can easily get out and lost. Make sure to keep microchip information up to date and have your pets tagged in case they get out.
