Between candy bowls, costumes, and decorations, Halloween brings a few extra things for curious pets to get into. 🎃

🍫 Chocolate and sugar-free candy: Chocolate can be toxic to dogs and cats, and xylitol, a sweetener found in some sugar-free products, is particularly dangerous for dogs.

🍬 Wrappers and small decorations: Swallowing these items can cause choking or intestinal blockages.

✨ Glow sticks and costume accessories: Chewing on glow sticks can cause mouth irritation and drooling, while small costume pieces may become choking hazards.

Keep tempting items safely out of reach, and contact your veterinarian or an animal poison control service promptly if you suspect your pet has swallowed something harmful.

A few precautions can help your family enjoy the festivities while keeping pets safe.

When was the last time you took a close look at your pet's teeth and gums? 🦷

Dental disease can cause significant discomfort, but pets don't always make it obvious when their mouths hurt. Some continue eating normally even when they have painful dental problems.

That's why regular dental evaluations are an important part of veterinary care.

At Florence Animal Hospital, we can assess your pet's oral health and recommend appropriate care, including professional dental cleanings when needed.

Your pet can't tell you when something feels off, but their bloodwork can give us important information about what's happening inside their body. 🩺

Routine blood tests can help veterinarians evaluate kidney and liver function, check for anemia or signs of infection, and monitor certain conditions over time.

Bloodwork is also valuable for establishing a baseline when your pet is healthy, giving us something to compare against as they age.

Whether it's part of a wellness visit, a pre-surgical evaluation, or monitoring an existing condition, bloodwork helps us make informed decisions about your pet's care.

Contact Florence Animal Hospital to learn more about recommended testing for your pet.
