Huge THANK YOU to the Florence Flamingos for coming out and walking dogs today! They were able to walk almost all of the dogs we have!!!

Thank you so much to Florence County Public Library for coming out to read to the cats and bring a crate full of book for our Rescue Readers program!

With school getting out, this is a great way to help develop good reading habits and to encourage children to read more. The cats LOVE the company too. This is a win-win for both children and the animals!

Bring your Rescue Readers to the shelter anytime we are open, Tuesday- Saturday from 12-5.

What about me Wednesday!?

Meet Scallop:

Scallop recently came to the shelter after being found running down the interstate. She arrived in true style in the backseat of a State Trooper's car.

One thing is for sure, she does NOT like being at the shelter! She wants a home where she can run, play and work!

She does well with other dogs, but dreams of a home where she can sing the songs of her people without a chorus of shelter dogs joining in to ruin her melodies.

In her new home she would like to run recon for any potential threats... like moles, possums, and stray birds flying in the No Fly Zone above her territory.

She claims to be a certified treat inspector and would even be willing to check your food to make sure it's good enough to eat.

Around 59 pounds
heartworm positive- but non symptomatic and can start treatment soon.

TRANSFORMATION TUESDAY:
A new segment highlighting big glows up with shelter dogs.

Special came in weighing just 38 pounds. Get it... 38 Special!? What we didn't know at the time was just how Special she would end up being. She has lived at the shelter for a total of 1007 days. That is almost 3 full years!!! She came in when she was just a little over a year old.
She doesn't know what a home life is. All she knew before the shelter was the gnawing pain of hunger, loneliness and being unloved. She is happy at the shelter. It is the best home she has ever had... but we know different. We know she would be so much happier in a home with another dog, and humans that understand she will need time to adjust to a totally different way of life.
