🎃👻 SOMETHING SPOOKY IS LURKING… AND IT’S NOT THE GHOSTS! 🐾🕷️

Happy Halloween Eve Eve, everyone! 😂🧡

Halloween is almost here, and while we’re busy getting costumes ready, stocking up on candy, and decorating our homes, our furry family members might be getting into a little more mischief than we planned!

But did you know some of the biggest Halloween dangers for pets are things we don’t always think about? 👀

🕸️ LET’S TALK HALLOWEEN PET SAFETY!

🍫 CHOCOLATE ISN’T JUST A SWEET TREAT!
Chocolate contains theobromine and caffeine, which can be toxic to dogs and cats. Dark chocolate and baking chocolate are especially dangerous!

🍬 SUGAR-FREE DOESN’T MEAN PET-SAFE!
Some sugar-free candies and gums contain xylitol, which can cause dangerously low blood sugar and liver damage in dogs.

🎃 PUMPKIN ISN’T ALWAYS A PROBLEM!
Plain, cooked pumpkin can be a safe treat for many pets in small amounts. But pumpkin pie filling, added spices, and sugary desserts? Not so much!

🕯️ WATCH THOSE SPOOKY DECORATIONS!
Candles, electrical cords, fake spiderwebs, and dangling decorations can lead to burns, injuries, or intestinal blockages if swallowed.

👻 NOT EVERY PET LOVES A COSTUME!
If your pet freezes, struggles, or seems uncomfortable, skip the costume! A festive bandana is just as adorable. ❤️

🚨 IMPORTANT: If your pet gets into chocolate, sugar-free candy, or something potentially toxic, contact a veterinarian or animal poison control immediately. Don’t wait for symptoms!

Here’s something that might surprise you!

Your dog can be running around the backyard, your cat can be demanding dinner like they haven’t eaten in three weeks, and everything can SEEM perfectly normal. 😂

But here’s the thing…

Pets are incredibly good at hiding illness.

And sometimes, their bloodwork tells us a story long before they start showing obvious symptoms!

🔬 SO WHAT CAN ROUTINE BLOODWORK ACTUALLY TELL US?

🐾 Kidney function: Are those kidneys doing their job properly?

🐾 Liver health: Are there changes in liver enzymes or other markers that deserve attention?

🐾 Blood sugar: Could diabetes or another blood sugar issue be developing?

🐾 Red and white blood cells: Are there signs of anemia, inflammation, or infection?

🐾 Protein and electrolyte levels: Are there imbalances that need further investigation?

And one of the BEST reasons to establish routine bloodwork?

We get to learn what’s normal for YOUR pet! ❤️

That gives us something to compare against as they age, which can make subtle changes easier to recognize.

Of course, bloodwork can’t detect every disease, but it’s an incredibly valuable piece of the puzzle!

🩷🐾 BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH… BUT DID YOU KNOW PETS CAN DEVELOP MAMMARY CANCER TOO?

October is almost over, but there’s one important conversation we don’t want to miss!

When we think about breast cancer, we naturally think about the people in our lives. But did you know dogs and cats can develop mammary tumors, too?

And here’s where things get interesting! 👀

🐶 DOGS: Approximately half of mammary tumors in dogs are malignant.

🐱 CATS: Unfortunately, mammary tumors in cats are much more likely to be malignant—approximately 80–90%.

🩷 WHAT SHOULD YOU WATCH FOR?

🐾 Small lumps or bumps along your pet’s belly or mammary glands.

🐾 Swelling or changes around the ni***es.

🐾 Discharge, redness, or sores.

🐾 A lump that seems to be growing or changing.

HERE’S SOMETHING IMPORTANT!

Spaying female dogs and cats before their first heat cycle can significantly reduce their risk of developing mammary tumors later in life.

And remember, not every lump is cancer, but every new lump deserves attention!

As we wrap up Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we’re reminding everyone that early detection matters for ALL the members of your family—even the four-legged ones. 🩷
