We are now offering prophylactic gastropexy surgery for dogs
Question:
What is gastropexy? A gastropexy is a surgery that is used to prevent GDV or commonly referred as "Bloat* or "Stomach twisting"
What is GDV? GDV stands for gastric dilatation and volvulus, which means that the stomach is enlarged and twists on itself
How a serious is GDV? GDV is fatal without surgical intervention
How does gastropexy prevent GDV? The surgery involves anchoring a portion of the stomach to the body wall. As a result, the stomach can expand, but it can no longer flip or twist, which is the dangerous part of GDV
What breeds are most commonly affected: Generally any deep chested dogs, particularly Great Danes, German Shepherds, Irish Setters, Irish Wolfhounds, Weimaraners, and Standard Poodles. Any dogs whose relatives have a history of GDV. As well as any working dogs including Police dogs and trained service dogs
