Saving Lives at Both Ends of the Leash These two groups have a commonality: the desperate need for hope. Most remarkably, each has the power to heal the other.

300,000 veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are currently struggling with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and/or TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury). These illnesses are devastating: 18 veterans commit suicide every 24-hours.

5-7 million companion animals enter shelters every year in this country. 60-70% are euthanized due to overcrowding, illness or behavioral issue, often the result of

neglect or abuse. Both know the pain of often being misunderstood and marginalized. We can help make it happen! The Humane Society for Hamilton County launched their Pets Healing Vets Program in May 2012 to match qualifying veterans suffering from PTSD or TBI with a shelter animal at no cost to the veteran. It’s Caesar’s GOTCHA DAY!

Today marks 4 years since Caesar was paired with Emily. These two continue to bring a new sense of safety and pure joy to each other’s lives with every day they spend together. Most days, Emily and Caesar can be found enjoying some well-deserved play time, but on this special day, Caesar is enjoying a very special treat in his forever home.

This is a day to remember that others paid for every free breath we get to take."

❗️Today is surgery day for Mona... ❗️

Adam's steadfast companion since 2018, Mona, is having surgery today to remove a mass on her front leg. Although the initial tests show that it is likely benign, the veterinarian won't know for certain until they do the surgery.

Scrub-a-Dub-Dub 🫧 How cute is Kobe in the tub?!

Kobe visited us today for a nail trim and bath and we got LOTS of kisses from this cutie! He was paired with his dad, a Vietnam Veteran, in 2022 and they have been attached at the hip since then.

🐾 NEW PETS HEALING VETS PAIRING 🇺🇸

We're honored to introduce you to Macy and Chipper, our newest Pets Healing Vets duo! Macy is an Army Veteran and has battled trauma from her service for years. She recently lost her beloved senior dog, and there was a huge void in her heart.

In stepped Chipper to fill that void with his sloppy kisses, playful demeanor, and lovable, sweet personality. Chipper had come to Humane Society for Hamilton County (Indiana) in December as a stray that was never reclaimed, and the shelter was incredibly stressful for this 11-month-old boy. Now that he has a home of his own, he's not showing any more signs of stress and he loves to have his own backyard to run and chase squirrels, followed by couch snuggles and more play time with his family.

Macy and Chipper have brought each other healing and comfort, and we're so grateful they found each other through the program. Please join us in congratulating them on their next chapter together!
