Motor City Possum Rescue Motor City Possum Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting wildlife.

We are a 501 (c)(3) non profit organization dedicated to caring for injured and orphaned wildlife. Our goal is to eventually release back in to their natural environment. While our primary focus is opossum, we intake other small mammals as well. (negative comments will be deleted and those posters will be blocked)

These 3 young Fox squirrels are sassy, single, and ready to mingle. We are looking for a local neighbor (Ferndale/Oak Park/Hazel Park) to allow us to release them on their property. The number of baby squirrel intakes increase after a storm. We always instruct finders to give the mother sufficient time to retrieve the babies, but this isn't always possible. That’s when we step in.

We are grateful to have an amazing team to spread out the work. It can be very overwhelming.

RANT!!!
PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS!!!

Every year without fail we get surrenders from people who thought they wanted a β€œpet” possum. Then at some point (usually too late) they decide they β€œcan’t” do it anymore. This is extremely frustrating for us and cruel to animal. They are not meant to be pets. They are wild animals and deserve to live out their β€œwild” life. It’s their birthright.

There are some conditions that will dictate an NR (non-releasable) situation but that should be determined by a qualified person (wildlife rehabber or veterinarian). Otherwise the goal should always be RELEASE

Now we are burdened with deciding the best outcome for these two. They have spent over a year in captivity which is half of their life expectancy. This is not easy and should not happen EVER οΏΌ
