Motor City Possum Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting wildlife. We are also subpermitted for migratory birds(owls & falcons)

Our organization has 3 licensed rehabbers each specializing in specific breed of small mammals. We are a 501 (c)(3) non profit organization dedicated to caring for injured and orphaned wildlife. Our goal is to eventually release back in to their natural environment. While our primary focus is opossum, we intake other small mammals as well. (negative comments will be deleted and those posters will

be blocked)

Multiple intakes yesterday. Squirrels and possums.
We feel like we need to post a reminder:

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FEED!

We understand your intentions are good but it actually makes it much harder when we have to treat aspiration pneumonia. Several intakes from yesterday are struggling because of this. We can always tell when they’ve been fed 😞

You can’t go to the pet store and buy a
Kitten bottle to feed a tiny squirrel. 👎🏻

You can’t bottle feed a baby possum. They don’t suck 🤷‍♀️

Anything with eyes closed should not be given anything. It’s easier to treat dehydration than aspiration pneumonia

If the eyes are open and you are concerned, you may offer a very shallow dish of water to lap from but no formula.

Its impossible to please everyone. It's impossible to keep up some days. Thank you to all of our kind and caring followers and finders for your support. Every once now and then we miss the boat. We feel bad for not being available to help any animal in need. But some people just aren't capable of understanding this. We can't fix that and don't have time to care

If I could get this place less than a one I would. I reached out just recently because I found a possum who looks like a young juvenile in my backyard and she was wheezing, congested, and did not look like she was healthy. I followed the instructions after I called to send them a text and a picture of the possum and I never heard back from them. Not a single text message. Unfortunately, this possum died while I was waiting for them to respond. If you are going to be a rescue center, I would think that every message was vital important, no matter what the time or day. I reached out at a reasonable time and never heard back.

We are sorry we were not able to help you. Every message is important to us however we are a volunteer run rescue and we receive 40-60 requests daily. We do our best but we sometimes can't keep up . Curious if you reached out to any other rescue..... if you did and you weren't able to get help did you leave them a review also? If you didn't..... that's on you.. Maybe you could volunteer and help instead of judging when you have no idea what its like

Another white possum!
This is the second one this year! Leucism is an abnormal pigmentation similar to albinism, the main difference being the eye color. She came in with her siblings cold and stinky. They were warmed and fed and antibiotics on board. We are optimistic about their recovery ❤️‍🩹

Recent intakes. Squirrel babies and possum babies are normal this time of year but it’s unusual to get a baby raccoon especially one so small. 🤷‍♀️ This one will likely be with us all winter 😫
