Motor City Possum Rescue

Motor City Possum Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting wildlife.

We are a 501 (c)(3) non profit organization dedicated to caring for injured and orphaned wildlife. Our goal is to eventually release back in to their natural environment. While our primary focus is opossum, we intake other small mammals as well. (negative comments will be deleted and those posters will be blocked)

Winter seems to last forever….especially for our young squirrels who were born just a little too late to be released in the fall. 😢 Keeping them enriched and happy can be a challenge, but they make the best of their situation.

If you want to help, we can always use more apple sticks (found on our Amazon and Chewy wishlists) and black walnuts (anuts.com). ❤️❤️

Happy New Year from Motor City Possum Rescue! In 2025, we were able to help over 960 animals, thanks to our tireless volunteers, and you and your support. Thank you! Here is to a great 2026!

We are dealing with a critical situation. This raccoon has lost a significant amount of fur, approximately three-quarters, in one piece. Despite this loss, the effectiveness of the medication is a promising sign. His current bald state makes it challenging for him to retain heat. Mange smells really bad so he will be housed in our heated garage, where the temperature will be maintained at 60 degrees. He has sufficient straw for warmth and bedding. His strong appetite is a positive indicator for his recovery. He will remain with us until he has regrown his fur.

We received multiple raccoons with mange this weekend, and this particular individual exhibits the most severe case. The administered medication has begun to effectively target the mange mites, while we also provide treatment for secondary skin infections and endoparasites. Upon arrival, the raccoon displayed extreme hunger, thirst, and exhaustion, indicating its energy was depleted from coping with its condition. We appreciate Jasmine's efforts in bringing him to our facility, and we will provide the best possible care.

Caroline contacted us this morning about Bagel, after seeing him struggle to stand up after being hit by a car in Wyandotte. Bagel is a BIG boy. He’s definitely got some head trauma, time will tell the extent of his internal injuries. He’s currently warming up so we can get him some fluids and pain meds.
1000 thank yous to Theresa and Caleigh from Halfway Home Wildlife Rehab for getting him picked up and transported to us. It really takes a village. ❤️❤️
