🚨 PREGNANT! URGENT CAT RESCUE NEEDED ASAP! 🚨
📍 Located in Detroit, near 8 and Woodward.
Everyone, meet Helga! ❤️
Helga and her sister randomly showed up one day and decided to join the colony of approximately 15 feral cats that I care for. Where they came from, I have absolutely no idea!
Her sister still wants absolutely nothing to do with me, but Helga started warming up about a week and a half ago. She's only interested in being my friend when there's food involved, but she's slowly becoming more trusting. And let me tell you, this girl LOVES her butt scratches!
She gets along with the other cats, although she can be a little pushy and likes getting right up in everyone's business. 😂
Here's where things get urgent. HELGA IS PREGNANT!
Based on her appearance, I believe she's approximately three-quarters of the way through her pregnancy. I honestly didn't even realize she was pregnant until I felt her belly while taking this video! I decided to push my luck a little and see how much handling she'd tolerate.
I NEED A CAT RESCUE OR AN APPROVED FOSTER HOME FOR HELGA ASAP!
Unfortunately, Help Us Help Them Dog Rescue is exactly that, a DOG rescue. We already have three kittens in our care from a previous rescue situation that we haven't been able to find placement for.
I'm also moving on October 30, so I have very little time to get Helga somewhere safe before I leave.
And before anyone suggests that I just bring her inside because "what's one more cat?" please understand that I physically cannot. I have severe asthma and cat allergies. I've already sacrificed a lot of my health caring for the three kittens I committed to, and I'm not willing to risk their health by bringing in another cat with an unknown medical history.
Helga is NOT being neglected! She's fed every single day, has access to fresh water and has outdoor shelter available, including a heated cat house and two igloo shelters. She's being cared for, but she deserves to be somewhere warm and safe before those babies arrive!
I'm also planning to treat her for fleas with regular Revolution and Capstar, using the appropriate products and dosages for a pregnant cat. And before anyone panics, regular Revolution and Capstar have both been tested for use in pregnant cats.

Please DO NOT simply comment that you're willing to foster. I need applications completed so we can move quickly!
I will work on securing a reputable cat rescue in the Metro Detroit area and forward completed foster applications directly to them.
PLEASE UNDERSTAND: Any rescue accepting Helga will have its own screening requirements. Expect a veterinary reference check confirming that your current pets are properly vaccinated, spayed/neutered and have completed appropriate disease testing, including feline combo testing for resident cats.
These requirements aren't meant to make fostering difficult. They're there to protect the animals already living in your home, especially when bringing in a cat with an unknown medical history. Helga's own vaccinations and medical care during pregnancy will need to be determined by a veterinarian.

❤️ Very sweet and increasingly trusting with people
❤️ Absolutely LOVES butt scratches
❤️ Gets along with the other cats in her colony
❤️ Not truly feral and has been allowing me to handle her
❤️ Unknown around dogs, although she doesn't seem bothered by mine when they're on the other side of the fence
❤️ Pregnancy suspected to be fairly advanced, but not yet confirmed by a veterinarian

We're located in the Ferndale/Detroit area and will be working with rescues throughout Metro Detroit.
I know rescues are overwhelmed. I know fosters are hard to come by. Trust me, I get it. But I'm hoping that somewhere out there is a rescue and a foster willing to give Helga and her babies a chance.
