Our foster, Titan, is looking for his forever home!

We rescued him a few days ago, raised money for his veterinary care, and spent over two grand getting his health back on track. He had extremely itchy ears, a dull coat, worn-down incisors, some bald areas, and severely overgrown nails. We addressed all of these issues, and he had a full dental procedure during which his worn-down teeth were removed. He also had X-rays and ultrasounds done to give us a clearer picture of his overall health, and everything looks great! He may have some ongoing allergy issues, but it will take time to pinpoint the cause because he is currently taking medication that could mask his symptoms.

Titan is about 6 years old and is still intact. He is neutral around other dogs and has not shown any signs of reactivity, but I would not place him in a home with a dominant male dog. He is fantastic with my kids. He chased my chickens for the first time today, now that he is finally feeling better, but I was able to call him off easily. He rides well in the car, and we are currently working on crate training. He has done incredibly well for a dog who had never been crated before.

Titan has a fantastic temperament, and we need his next home to be his last. He has had a rough few years, so I will be very selective about where he goes. A small rehoming fee will apply.

Located in Northwest Arkansas. Please reshare and engage with this post to help find him a home!

Have you met Titan?

We rescued him yesterday! I saw his rehoming post (last slides), and I instantly started tearing up. He just looked so sad. His owner simply doesnโ€™t have the space or funds to keep him anymore. It honestly reminded me of the scene in Fox and the Hound where the old lady drops Todd off in the forest crying because she knows she canโ€™t keep him. His owner was heartbroken to let him go.

Titan has terribly itchy ears, super long nails, worn-down front incisors, a very dull coat, and some bald, itchy spots.

We took him to the vet today, and the bill was $997. We opted for the full senior wellness panel, even though heโ€™s only 6 years old. I wanted to get a very clear picture of his health so we can get him feeling his best! We also scheduled a dental cleaning, where heโ€™ll need a few extractions. I was quoted about $960 for that.

Iโ€™ve received about $1,000 in donations so far, and Iโ€™m hoping to raise enough to cover the rest of his care. Iโ€™m also going to be feeding him a high-quality diet while heโ€™s here.

Heโ€™ll be available for adoption in a couple of weeks! Heโ€™s 6 years old, intact, and has an excellent temperament. He was very neutral meeting our dogs, and I havenโ€™t seen any leash reactivity. Heโ€™s incredibly people-friendly and has been great with our kids, cats, and chickens. If his allergy issues end up being manageable, someone could absolutely hit the jackpot with him. Heโ€™s wonderful!

We have received all the donations we need. TPupfluenceโ„ข๏ธryone!

Introducingโ€ฆTitan. Can you tell this isnโ€™t a rare occurrence? ๐Ÿ˜‚

A solid stay is one of those basic skills I think every dog should know. For us especially, with so many dogs, structure around mealtimes is a must!

This is easiest to teach with a high-value reward, and for a food-motivated dog, you can practice at every meal. Start by asking for a sit, followed by โ€œstay.โ€ Begin lowering the bowl, and if they stand up or move forward, lift the bowl back up and start over: ask for the sit again, give the stay cue again, and try lowering the bowl once more.

At first, you can say your release word as youโ€™re lowering the bowl so they learn what it means. Ours is โ€œOK.โ€ As they begin to understand it, gradually work toward setting the bowl all the way down before releasing them. I also like to working towards waiting for eye contact before saying โ€œOK.โ€ Keep the first sessions easy and slowly increase how long they wait.

And when the reward is Viva Raw, Runa is very motivated to practice. ๐Ÿ˜‚

We knew we wanted to start her on a raw diet, and after a lot of research, I chose Viva Raw. Their puppy recipes are complete and balanced for the growth of large-breed puppies, and theyโ€™re made with natural, whole-food ingredientsโ€”which is surprisingly hard to find in a complete and balanced dog food.

Thinking about importing a dog into the U.S.? ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Hereโ€™s what you need to know.

The first option is manifest cargo, which is what most people think of when they hear โ€œshipping a dog.โ€ For a large puppy, this is often $2,000+, and the process is more involved. In many cases, youโ€™ll also need a customs broker to help clear your dog through the cargo facility, adding even more to the overall cost.

The second option is having someone accompany your dog on a flight. Your dog still flies safely in the cargo hold, but as accompanied excess baggage instead of manifest cargo. Because of that, the airline fee is often only a few hundred dollars, pickup is much more straightforward, and depending on airfare and the transporterโ€™s fee, this route can actually be the more affordable option.

If youโ€™re up for an adventure, you can even make the trip yourself. Fly to your puppyโ€™s country, meet them in person, and bring them home as accompanied excess baggage. Youโ€™ll still need to complete the required paperwork, but for some people, this ends up being the most cost-effective option.

One thing many people donโ€™t think about is that imported dogs can only enter the U.S. through certain international airports. If you donโ€™t live near one, youโ€™ll also need to factor in the cost and time of getting your puppy home. In our case, Runa flew into Washington, D.C., so I flew there, rented a car, and made the 17-hour drive back to Arkansas with her.

Every import is a little different, but understanding your options ahead of time can save you a lot of moneyโ€”and a lot of stress.

Runa. To me, itโ€™s a feminine version of Rune, which means symbolism or something with a deeper meaning. Because I think she was sent to me from the dogs I lost.

I began casually researching breeders last year just to have someone to watch and follow over time. I didnโ€™t want a puppy just to have a puppy. I was looking for something very specific. From the start, Lesฬna Wataha PL and I had an instant connection. Like I had known her for years. As we chatted more, that only grew, and it was a situation where everything just felt right. And as I get older, I follow my own intuition more and more.

Since I lost my dogs, I saw 1s and 3s constantly for months. It seemed connected to the dogs, but I didnโ€™t know how. I met this breeder on 10/30. I selected Runa as my puppy on 3/13. Since getting her, I donโ€™t see them anymore.

Runa was born only a couple days before Kobaโ€™s birthday. I saw her grandpa (last picture), and it was like looking at Koba. It was bizarre since Iโ€™ve never seen another dog that truly reminded me of him. And I realized last week that I brought Runa home exactly 11 years to the day after I brought Ryker home.

I truly think I was led to her by Koba and Ryker. โค๏ธ
