🎓 Ready to Take Your Dog’s Skills to the Next Level?

Our Intermediate Skills & Canine Good Citizen Prep Class starts Monday June 22 at 5:10 PM, and we still have a couple of spots available!

enroll: https://www.rfr.bz/f041ada

If your dog already has a foundation of basic manners—sit, down, stay, coming when called, walking politely on leash, and working around other dogs—this class is the perfect next step.

Here's the secret: there really aren't "advanced" dog training skills. The most impressive dogs are simply the ones who can do the basics better, longer, and in more challenging situations.

In this class we'll help you:
🐾 Build stronger focus and reliability
🐾 Improve leash walking and public manners
🐾 Practice calm behavior around distractions
🐾 Strengthen stays, recalls, and everyday obedience
🐾 Prepare for the Canine Good Citizen evaluation

Whether your goal is earning a CGC title or simply having an even more enjoyable companion in everyday life, this class provides practical training in a fun, supportive environment.

Class starts Monday June 22nd at 5:10 PM. If you've been thinking about taking your dog's training beyond the basics, now is a great time to join us! 🐕✨

🐾 Making Grooming & Vet Care Less Stressful for Everyone 🐾

This video is a great example of cooperative care training in action!

Coach Jen is helping this dog learn that ear cleaning can be a safe, predictable, and rewarding experience. Rather than forcing care and creating fear or resistance, cooperative care teaches dogs to willingly participate in handling and husbandry procedures.

If your dog struggles with:
✔️ Ear cleaning
✔️ Nail trims
✔️ Brushing or grooming
✔️ Vet visits
✔️ Medication administration
✔️ General handling

Coach Jen can help.

The goal isn’t just to get through today’s grooming or veterinary appointment—it’s to build long-term skills that make these experiences easier for both you and your dog for years to come. Most importantly, Jen teaches you how to continue the training so the progress keeps growing long after the lesson is over.

There is a better way than wrestling, chasing, or forcing care. With patience, training, and the right approach, many dogs can learn to feel more comfortable and confident during necessary care procedures. ❤️🐶

Most people picture dog trainers spending all day with puppies, teaching fun tricks, and hanging out with dogs. And yes… there’s definitely some of that. 🐾

But behind the scenes at Down Dog Studio, a huge part of our job happens away from the training floor.

Emails, client follow-ups, training plans, videos, vaccine records, scheduling, website updates, continuing education, webinars, workshops, bills, taxes, and all the admin work that keeps things running — it all matters.

Coach Jen and I care deeply about supporting not just the dogs, but the people attached to the leash too. ❤️

So if you’ve ever wondered what we’re doing when we’re “not working dogs”… this is a big part of it.

We don’t just help teach “sit” and “stay” — we help dogs and their people with real-life everyday goals. 🐾

A great example: one of our clients wanted her dog to feel comfortable riding in a bicycle trailer. Using foundation skills the dog had already learned — like nose targeting/hand targeting — Coach Jen helped turn the trailer into something fun, positive, and exciting to jump into.

Training skills are more than cues… they’re tools that help dogs confidently navigate the world around them. 🚲✨

Here’s a look at those very first training steps!

🇺🇸🐾 Memorial Day Weekend adventures are better when our dogs stay safe, comfortable, and set up for success! Whether you’re heading to the lake, campground, cabin, or a family BBQ, remember that holiday weekends can be exciting — but also overwhelming for some dogs.

✔️ Keep dogs safely on leash
✔️ Watch body language and give breaks when needed
✔️ Bring water, shade, treats, p**p bags, and travel essentials
✔️ Make sure ID tags and microchips are updated
✔️ Respect dogs who need space from people or other dogs

Not every dog loves crowds, noise, or constant interaction — and that’s okay. Helping our dogs feel safe is one of the best gifts we can give them. ❤️🐶

Wishing everyone a fun, safe, and relaxing Memorial Day weekend!

💥 Truth time! 💥

I’ve been a dog trainer for years. And there are 3 common hurdles that often stop dog owners from reaching the results they want with their dog. 🐾

🐾 They don’t make enough time for consistent practice and expect one or two sessions to “fix” a behavior.
🐾 They become frustrated with their dog when things don’t go right instead of looking at how stress, excitement, distractions, environments, or lack of practice may have influenced the outcome.
🐾 They wait too long to seek help and support, hoping behaviors will simply improve on their own over time.

None of these things should stop you from getting support and building a better relationship with your dog. 💛

Why?

Because training is a process — not a quick fix. Dogs learn through repetition, patience, clear communication, and being set up for success. Progress takes time, and even small consistent efforts can create huge positive changes over time.

The good news? We’re here to help. 🐶✨

We offer group classes for dogs of all ages and stages of learning, along with private training sessions that can fit your schedule or focus on behaviors that may not be appropriate for a general group class setting.

Our trainers are certified professionals with years of hands-on experience and continuing education dedicated to helping both dogs and their humans succeed.

Today’s Thursday Doggy Hero Award goes to whoever keeps this neighborhood biscuit tree stocked. 🌳🐶🍪

To the kind human behind the giant dog cookies… we see you, we appreciate you, and honestly, the dogs probably think you’re a celebrity. 😂

Thanks for making walks a little more fun, a little more joyful, and a whole lot tastier. 💛
