LUDO UPDATE 🩵 TW for wound pictures

What a difference a month makes!! Ludo was found as a stray with a thin piece of rope tied tightly around his neck. As he grew, the rope cut into his skin causing a deep wound.

Over the past few weeks he’s been doing a great job healing - first in bandages, then in a cone, and now he’s finally free! While he’ll likely never grow fur on that band of scar tissue, I honestly still can’t believe how great his neck looks. He is the sweetest little man and is really starting to show off his goofy personality 🥹
Thank you so much to everyone who donated to his care and made this possible!

*Ludo is not available for adoption at this time

Happy 8th-15th birthday to Lemon!

We trapped her on this day five years ago and she has been an enigma ever since. We didn’t know how old she was then (besides “adult, not geriatric”) because she’s medically strange, honestly kinda grimy, and also pretty weird behaviorally. All those things are still true today! She’s a permanent resident here because she isn’t quite right in the dome and we love her for it.

For her birthday treat she got extra soupy dinner. Yippee! 😌💛

Pretty sure this one is NOT a cat!
This pup had been roaming around the base of Mt Agamenticus for at least 5 days with no owner to be found. The poor guy was terrified; bolting from any people who saw him and darting back and forth across a busy road.

Even though it’s not my usual wheelhouse, trapping is trapping right?
Our friend (who we now know is named Rocky) was skeptical at first but ultimately couldn’t resist the steak bait. We brought him straight to the ER and thankfully, aside from lots of ticks and mild heat exhaustion, he appears to be in good shape.

This morning we brought Rocky to a shelter that can accommodate dogs where he will be able to recover from his big adventure. He was a great copilot and I wish him the best of luck in his journey going forward 🩷

A big thanks to Maine Lost Dog Recovery,
Maine Veterinary Medical Center, and all others involved with getting this cutie to safety!

Rocky’s short visit here did leave us with a vet bill of about $200. If you’re interested in donating towards the bill, please use the button on this post or visit our website:

Update: thanks to your generosity we’ve covered Rocky’s bill! Any donations exceeding our original goal will be rolled into our emergency fund. Yall are the best!

Rocky is a young neutered male husky mix. He is microchipped but contact efforts have been unsuccessful.

IRRITABLE BOWEL ICON POTATO NOW HAS MERCH!

Potato is just about completely recovered from his emergency surgery, and now that biopsies have confirmed he has IBD and he’s receiving the appropriate treatments, we’ll hopefully never see that “ouchy belly” expression ever again. It is however suuuper cute, so why not memorialize it on a shirt (plus hoodies, totes, crop tops, and more!) forever and ever?

POTATO MERCH AVAILABLE NOW:
https://www.bonfire.com/store/spicylilcats/

All proceeds go towards Potato’s emergency surgery bill.

Bandage change day for Ludo! He’s just the best little patient and so cooperative 🥹

If you missed our last post about him, Ludo was found with a rope tied tightly around his neck. It had been there for so long that it became embedded in his skin.
Though his wound looks a little scary, it is SO much better than it was initially!

I’m sure all this poking and prodding is a little uncomfortable, but thankfully he is veeeery food motivated so he doesn’t mind.

Thank you to all who donated to his care! If you’d like to contribute to Ludo’s medical fund, visit our website here: https://www.spicycats.org/donate ❣️

WARNING GRAPHIC PHOTOS

I don’t know what your life was like before, but I do know it’ll be very different from here on out ❤️‍🩹

Over the weekend we welcomed Ludo. He was found living on the streets with a piece of rope tied tightly around his neck. It had been there for so long that it burrowed deep into his skin, just narrowly avoiding all the important structures in his throat.

Our lovely TNR clinic friends were able to remove the rope on Sunday and today he saw our vet for further wound care.

Despite all he’s gone through, Ludo still wants to trust humans. Just a few hours after waking up from surgery he was giving us slow blinks and cautiously leaning into pets 🥹

Ludo is expected to make a full recovery but he will need ongoing medical care for his injured neck!
❣️ Please consider donating to his care: https://www.spicycats.org/donate ❣️

Please remember to never use ANYTHING around a cat’s neck except breakaway/safety collars!

NH GIVES FOR BIG TONY

A large barn fire tragically destroyed the only home Big Tony had ever known. He and about 9 other cats survived the blaze, but were now left needing medical attention and a place to live.

Big Tony was very trap-savvy. We were able to catch and treat all of his relatives, but he took weeks to humanely trap. Once he was finally in our care, his rehabilitation was able to begin. Luckily he was largely unaffected by the fire, but he needed extensive dental care for his broken teeth. While Tony was waiting for his dentist appointment, we saw his tough exterior begin to soften. Underneath it all was a gentle softie who loved belly rubs! He will cry for affection, rub against you, and even give kisses. Strangers are still scary to him, but once you’ve earned his trust he’s the sweetest boy.

Big Tony is now waiting for his forever home! Find more information about adopting Big Tony on our website 🩷
