Looking for a dog trainer who knows the products worth trusting? Here's a behind-the-scenes look from the 2026 Global Pet Expo.

I'm Joe DeSimone, certified in-home positive reinforcement dog trainer with Canine Command, and I stopped by the PetKORE booth to talk with Mackenzie about a brand I already use in my training work across Estero, Fort Myers, Bonita Springs, and Naples.

What makes PetKORE different? It's an all-American company, and every toy is made from natural rubber. That matters because durability and safety are non-negotiable when I'm recommending products to my clients.

What do they make? Training toys, fetch toys, tug toys, and grooming tools. A full lineup built for real play.
Mackenzie also hinted at new releases coming soon that are designed to engage your dog in fresh ways. I'm sworn to secrecy, but keep an eye out.

You can find PetKORE on their website or at coastalpet.com.

More from the 2026 Global Pet Expo still coming. 🐾

New graduate alert! πŸŽ“πŸΎ

Say hello to Kyber, a handsome lab mix rescue, and his owners, John and Miles.

Kyber absolutely aced his focus and obedience work. Watching a rescue dog settle into himself like this never gets old. There is a moment in training where a dog stops reacting to the world and starts looking to his people for guidance instead, and Kyber found that moment.

But here is the part I always want families to hear. Kyber did not get there on his own. John, Dyan & Miles did the training. They put in the practice, they used good technique, and they stayed consistent. A dog can only rise to the level of leadership the home provides, and this family gave Kyber a steady, patient one.

Kyber is well on his road to becoming a true Canine Good Citizen, and I could not be prouder of this whole crew.

Congratulations John, Dyan, Miles, and Kyber. You earned this.

Today we pause.

Memorial Day isn't about sales or savings. It's about the men and women who gave everything so the rest of us could live the lives we live. The quiet backyards. The walks with our dogs. The freedom to do work we love in a community we care about.

I never served, but I have deep respect for those who did and for the families who carry their loss every day. I also want to acknowledge the military working dogs who served alongside their handlers, and the K9 partners who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty. Their loyalty and courage is the truest form of partnership I know.

To every Gold Star family in our SWFL community, thank you. You and your loved ones are in our prayers today and always. We remember.

"Sometimes we need someone to simply be there. Not to fix anything, or to do anything in particular, but just to let us feel that we are cared for and supported."

Dogs do this better than anyone.

Quietly. Without asking. Without judgment. They lean in when we're heavy. They rest a chin on our knee when we don't even know we needed it. They stay close when the world feels far.

Happy Sunday, friends. Hold your people close. Hold your dogs closer. - Dog Trainer Joe

"He KNOWS he did something wrong. Look at that face!"

I hear it almost every week. And I get it. That look is real. It's just not what you think.

When your dog lowers his head, softens his eyes, and slows his tail after you've found the chewed shoe, he isn't saying "I know what I did." He's saying "I see you're upset. Please don't be upset with me."

That's not guilt. That's appeasement. And it's one of the most sophisticated forms of communication your dog has.

Studies have shown dogs display the same "guilty look" even when they did absolutely nothing wrong, as long as their owner believes they did and acts disappointed. Your dog isn't reading the chewed shoe. He's reading you. Your face. Your voice. Your body. Your energy in the room.

The 5 appeasement signals to watch for:

1. Lowered head
2. Soft, squinty eyes
3. Ears pinned back
4. Slow, low tail wag
5. Rolling over or lip licking

Scolding after the fact doesn't teach your dog anything except that you're sometimes scary for reasons he can't predict. That damages trust over time. Training happens in the moment, not after.

Your hand should only bring petting, praise, and treats to your dog.

πŸŽ“ Meet the Class of 2026.
These dogs walked into training as puppies, rescues, anxious souls, and bouncing balls of energy. They walked out as confident, polite, well-mannered companions. And behind every one of them is an owner who showed up, did the homework, and trusted the process.

Graduation season always gets me. Not because of the certificates, but because of what they represent. Hours of patience. Owners learning to read their dogs. Dogs learning to trust their people. Quiet breakthroughs that nobody sees but the family living through them.
To every dog in this lineup, and every owner who put in the work, congratulations. You did this together.

Could your dog be next? I'm now booking summer training across Southwest Florida. In-home, one-on-one, positive reinforcement only. Your hand should only bring petting, praise, and treats to your dog.

A little proof that training is a family effort. 🐾

Meet Rusty, a sweet Shih Tzu, and Marco, a handsome French Bulldog and Boston Terrier mix. And just as importantly, meet their people, Holly and Paul.

Here is what I love about this story. Holly and Paul did the work. They showed up for the exercises, they did the reading, they stayed consistent between our sessions. And their dogs responded beautifully because of it.

That is the secret most people do not hear often enough. I can teach the techniques, but the dog learns from the family who lives with them every single day. When the owners commit, the dog follows. Rusty and Marco are living proof.

They are well on their road to becoming true Canine Good Citizens, and I could not be prouder of this whole crew.
Congratulations Holly, Paul, Rusty, and Marco. Keep up the wonderful work.

Thinking about training but not sure where to begin? Let me make it simple.

A trained dog is a happy dog, and that means a happy owner. After 24 years of in-home training across Southwest Florida, I have learned that the families who succeed are not the ones with the "easiest" dogs. They are the ones who knew how to take the first step.

So here is exactly how working with me works, start to finish:

Contact me through the website and tell me a little about your dog.
Fill out my training forms so I can build a plan made just for your dog.

We begin sessions on a schedule that fits your life, and your whole family trains alongside me.

I monitor progress and adjust the plan as your dog grows.

You enjoy the benefits of a calm, focused, well-mannered Canine Good Citizen.

No guesswork. No rigid one-size-fits-all program. Just a clear path, walked together, at a pace that works for your household.
When you are ready, I am one phone call away.

Your dog is reading you right now. Your face. Your voice. Your body. Even the chemical signals your body gives off.

This is what I call posturing. And every Canine Command client learns three types: command, correction, and recall.

Why posturing matters more than most owners realize: dogs are finely tuned to decipher our mood and emotions far beyond what any human can. Their hearing is four times more sensitive than ours. They can detect movement from far away. They can even read our infrared heat with cells at the tip of their nose, and chemical and pheromone emissions through the vomeronasal organ at the roof of their mouth.

New research out of the University of SΓ£o Paulo is now confirming what trainers have seen for decades. Dogs can accurately match recorded human speech patterns with the matching facial expression. They distinguish positive expressions from negative ones almost instantly. The researchers describe an incredibly intimate behavioral evolution between dogs and humans.

That's exactly why posturing works. When you give a command, your face, voice, and body need to match. When you correct, the posture shifts. When you recall, it shifts again. Congruent posturing supercharges the communication and bond between you and your dog.

It's gratifying to know cutting-edge research is now validating what I teach every Canine Command client.
