If your dog’s food looks like cereal… we should probably talk.

This is day 4 of Raw Dog Food Week!

Today Annie is breaking down Primal and why I like the way they’ve made raw feeding a lot more flexible depending on your lifestyle.

They’ve got their flagship raw frozen formula, which is where a lot of people start. They’ve also got that same formula in freeze dried, which makes life a whole lot easier when you’re traveling, stocking up for hurricane season, or just need something more convenient without completely changing what your dog eats.

And then there’s the newest option, which I think a lot of people are going to be excited about. It’s part raw, part cooked, so you still get a lot of the benefits of raw, but at a price point that makes daily feeding way more realistic for more families.

It’s a smart lineup. Same philosophy, different ways to make it work in real life.

Watch Annie break it all down below.

This was from about 7 years ago when I was deep in training, working on poodles like this every chance I got.

I remember this one pretty clearly. Poodles don’t let you get away with anything. Every line shows, every little mistake shows, so you either slow down and do it right or the haircut just doesn’t come together.

Back then I was focused on building that eye. Learning how to shape the coat so the whole dog changes, not just the hair. The posture looks better, the expression pops, everything just feels more put together.

Looking back at it now, I can still see where I was at in my journey. What I did well, what I’d do differently today.

That’s the thing with grooming. You’re always learning. Always refining. And the dogs will keep you honest every single time.

If you’re watching Annie’s video, this is the part I want you to really hear.

Most people don’t avoid raw because they don’t care. They avoid it because it feels like too much. Too complicated, too much to figure out, too easy to mess up.

That’s exactly why I trust what Small Batch has built.

They’ve taken something that should be natural and made it practical. You don’t have to go all in. You can start with freeze dried, add a topper, try gently cooked. It meets you wherever you’re at.

Annie walks through it in a way that just makes it click. Way better than I could explain it here.

And this week, I wanted to give people a real starting point. So with any purchase, I’m including a free freeze dried goat’s milk that my mom makes by hand.

I’ve seen what happens when people start making small changes like this. It doesn’t stay small for long.

Raw feeding sounds complicated until you actually see it.

So I had Annie walk through it on video.

She’s one of the people I trust most here, and she does a really good job breaking it down in a way that actually makes sense. Kibble, raw, and the goat’s milk we make right here at home. Nothing fancy. Just showing how simple it really is to upgrade your dog’s bowl without overthinking it.

This week means a lot to me. It’s Raw Dog Food Week, and I’m talking about what I’ve seen work over and over again. Dogs thriving on real food that actually matches how their bodies are built.

Not every dog fits perfectly into raw. I’ve seen some that do better on gently cooked. But for a lot of dogs, even adding a little raw on top changes everything. Better energy, better skin, better digestion. You notice it.

And then there’s the goat’s milk.

My mom runs a goat farm right here in Estero. She’s out there every day milking goats. When there’s extra, we freeze dry it, bottle it, and bring it into the shop. The other day I walked in and my grandma was there for the winter, standing at the table filling bottles by hand. No big production. Just us making sure nothing good goes to waste.

So this week, when you grab $30 of freeze dried or frozen raw, I’m giving you a bottle of that goat’s milk on us.

We still pay her for every bottle. It’s not about margin. It helps cover feed and keeps really good milk from getting tossed.

We’ve got a limited supply because some of you already grab these regularly, but she’s stocked up as much as she can.

If you’ve been curious about raw, this is probably the easiest place to start. And if your dog turns their nose up at it or it doesn’t sit right, bring it back. No pressure. Full money back guarantee within two weeks.

At the end of the day, I care way more about your dog actually doing well than forcing something that doesn’t fit.

That part always comes first.

Every now and then someone asks me “Do you groom Westies?”

Short answer is yes.

Here's the long answer:

It’s 5 a.m.
Dark outside.
Coffee in hand. Clippers in the back seat.

I’m driving four hours across Florida.

Not for a vacation.
Not for a seminar with snacks and name tags.

For one breed.

Twice a month, I’d make that drive. Spend the entire day working on West Highland White Terriers. Studying the head shape. The skirt. The jacket. The exact way the expression should look when you step back from the table.

Westies aren’t just “short body, fluffy head.”

There’s structure. Balance. Angles. A very specific silhouette that separates a proper Westie from a white dog with a haircut.

I’d practice hand stripping. Reset. Practice again. Tiny scissor adjustments around the eyes to get that bold, confident expression. Step back. Adjust again.

All day.

Then I’d pack up, get back in the car, and drive four hours home.

Pull into the driveway around 3 a.m.

Sleep a few hours.

Open the salon the next morning like nothing happened.

Over 100 hours focused on one breed.

Not because I had to.

No one was forcing me. No one was paying extra. Most clients would never know the difference between 85 percent right and 100 percent right.

But I would know.

And that mattered.

That’s not talent.

That’s not luck.

That’s hunger.

It’s the quiet decision to care more than required.

It’s choosing to master something most people would shortcut.

It’s understanding that “good enough” might satisfy today… but excellence builds a reputation that lasts.

So yes.

We groom Westies.

When we built the indoor dog park, it was supposed to be for the dogs.

Climate controlled. Turfed floors. Clean. Safe for small pups to run without Florida heat or rain.

That was the plan.

At first, it was just a few owners testing it out. A little awkward small talk while their dogs figured each other out.

Then the same people started showing up every morning.

9 a.m. like clockwork.

Tiny dogs sprinting across the turf. Tails wagging. Owners pulling chairs closer together. Coffee in hand.

Conversations turned into routines. Routines turned into friendships.

We’ve watched people meet there and become real friends. Celebrate birthdays. Support each other through life stuff. Some have joked they’d still come even if they didn’t have a dog anymore.

That’s when it hit me.

We didn’t just build a dog park.

We built a third place.

Not home.
Not work.

A place people belong.

The dogs come to play.

The humans stayed for the community.

And honestly, that part means more than we ever expected.
