IS MY PET TOO OLD FOR SURGERY?

This is a question we are commonly asked by owners facing the decision of taking their pet to surgery. The short answer is that age alone often does not influence our recommendation.

We look at multiple factors. For instance, does the surgery improve the wellbeing of the pet, are there medical conditions present that increase anesthesia risks or may cause post operative complications, has the pet had proper presurgical screening are just a few. We weigh the pros and cons of surgery and help educate owners to make the right decision for them.

My beloved Maggie is 11 years old. She just had ear hematoma surgery last Wednesday. Pros and cons were evaluated and it was clear that surgery was in Maggieโ€™s best interest.

If your pet has a surgical need, but you have postponing it due to age, please make a surgical consult so we can help. We may recommend against it, but it never hurts to have that open discussion.

Compliance is a big factor that affects how well your dog is protected against flea and ticks. Remembering to give preventatives on time, getting our dogs to take it, not swimming or bathing after applying it can be a hassle. Bravecto Quantum a 1 year injection is your solution to protect against fleas and ticks in our area without the hassle!

โ€”๐ŸพWho it is for? Any dog that doesnโ€™t have epilepsy or liver disease.
โ€”๐Ÿพ Is it expensive? For many dog sizes it is cheaper than 12 months of oral prevention!! Larger dogs can be the exception here.
โ€”๐Ÿพ Are there side effects? The same side effects that the oral prevention has, plus soreness because it is an injection.
โ€” ๐Ÿพ Do I need a test before? It is advised to do a 4dx blood test before transitioning preventatives, unless you currently give oral Bravecto to ensure you begin with a negative status.

Wishing a happy and safe Independence Day to all!
