A mama cat & young kittens were found at the start of the holiday weekend. Thankfully the finders, after doing due diligence to locate owners, recognized it was far too hot for this little family with no shelter, food or water. They took them into their home & began reaching out to shelters & rescues.
As you can imagine, they had little luck. A holiday weekend & the fact that every single shelter & rescue is full makes for a bad combo. But sometimes, things work out like it was meant to be.
Our intake is closed but we had recently been contacted about an emergency pregnant cat situation. We reached out to staff & between them & our board, decided we could make it happen. However, turns out that cat wasn’t actually pregnant! Which means, we had everything set up for a pregnant/nursing mama & no actual mama.
The lovely finders kept the family safe through the holiday weekend, falling in love with them. We’ve since gotten them all settled into Contented Critters & we are happy to say they are all doing well!
This situation highlights the need for cats (& dogs!) getting spayed & neutered. There are, simply, far too many litters. Left out in the wild, most, if not all of these kittens would have perished. Spay & neuter saves lives & will help ease the impossible burden on shelters & rescues.
We are about to reopen applications for our low cost spay & neuter program here in Ely. Please consider donating so we can help as many critters as possible. Through our program, they get vetted, vaccinated & fixed. This is a desperately needed program for this area!
Special thanks to the finders who took such wonderful care of this little family. ❤️ We truly depend on our community & together we are saving critters lives!
***we are not taking any applications or requests for adopting these kitties at this time. Watch for us posting when they’ll be ready to go!
