We all know it going to be extremely hot for the next few days. Dangerously ๐ฅ. Real feel over 105F! I never understood why people bring their dogs to the dog park in temps like this.
If you must take Fido to the park PLEASE read this.
There are three different types of hyperthermia. While many people use these terms interchangeably there are differences between the conditions each varying in their severity.
๐๐๐๐ญ ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐๐ฌ๐ฌ is associated with increased thirst and panting. The pet is mentally aware and is generally able to move about.
๐ฏ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ is a more severe form of heat stress. It is associated with a significant increase in thirst, general weakness and heavy panting. Pets are also found to be mentally aware but too weak/tried to react, and may not be able to move around or may collapse.
๐๐๐๐ฉ ๐๐ฉ๐ง๐ค๐ ๐ is the most severe type of hyperthermia. It occurs when your pet's temperature exceeds 105F degrees. At this temperature neurological, and organ dysfunction and failure occurs. The first signs of heat stroke in dogs include excessive or frantic panting, thick and sticky drool, and bright red or pale gums. You may also notice your dog acting unusually restless, pacing, or suddenly becoming weak and sluggish.
The effects of heat stroke are devastating, and in all cases, even in suspected heat stroke, immediate treatment is needed as every second makes a significant difference to the outcome. Suddenly, Your dog is facing a life-threatening emergency cuz someone said, โletโs go to the park.โ
