As we head into the fall season, keeping your pup well-groomed can go a long way in ensuring they're safe, comfortable, and lookin' good. This week, we’re sharing simple tips when it comes to brushing your dog:

✨ Dogs shed their summer coats to prepare for a thicker winter coat, so regular brushing is key to removing dead hair and preventing matting.

✨ Use tools like slicker brushes or shedding blades, especially for double or long-haired breeds, to effectively remove loose fur.

✨ Consider a Professional De-Shedding Treatment - If your dog has a particularly thick or double coat, a professional groomer can perform a de-shedding treatment to remove loose undercoat and improve ventilation.

Not sure how often to brush? Your groomer can guide you based on your dog’s coat type. Your pup will love the extra care. 🐶🍂

🐾👀 Meet Buddy: America’s First Guide Dog 👀🐾

In 1928, a German Shepherd named Buddy made history as the first guide dog in the U.S. 🐶🇺🇸

She was trained in Switzerland and partnered with Morris Frank, a young man who lost his sight. With Buddy by his side, Morris proved to a skeptical world that blind individuals could live independently. Their work led to the founding of The Seeing Eye, the first guide dog school in North America. 🦮💡

Buddy didn’t just guide—she opened doors for thousands.

🐾 Meet Balto: The Hero Who Saved a Town 🐾
In 1925, a deadly diphtheria outbreak threatened the children of Nome, Alaska. When no other option was available, a relay of sled dogs braved a 674-mile journey through brutal blizzards to deliver life-saving medicine — and Balto led the final leg to victory. 🐕

Balto became a symbol of courage, endurance, and the unbreakable bond between humans and dogs. A statue in New York’s Central Park honors his legacy to this day.

🎖️ Because of Balto, we remember that even the smallest among us can make the biggest difference.

Six months later, thin and worn but determined, Bobbie scratched at his family’s door — and instantly became a national sensation. 📸

💧 Hydration Awareness Month 💧

Is Your Dog Drinking Enough Water? Or Too Much? 🐶
Monitoring your dog’s water intake is just as important as feeding them the right diet. Both too little and too much water can signal health concerns.

🚨 Too little can lead to dehydration — watch for signs like lethargy, dry gums, or sunken eyes.
⚠️ Too much could point to issues like kidney disease or diabetes.

✅ Tips to Monitor Water Intake:
- Measure how much you pour into the bowl daily
- Clean and refill bowls regularly to encourage drinking
- Note any sudden increase or decrease in drinking habits
-Always offer fresh water, especially in hot weather or after exercise

If something seems off, trust your instincts and call your vet. Staying hydrated is key to your dog’s health! 🐾❤️

💧 Hydration Awareness Month 💧

Last week, we shared about the risk of dehydration. This week we are looking at the other side of the coin, water intoxication.

Water Intoxication occurs when a dog drinks excessive amounts of water, which leads to an imbalance of electrolytes in the bloodstream. The imbalance can cause several health issues, including swelling of the brain.

This can occur during water activities such as swimming, retrieving toys from water, or even playing with the hose or sprinkler. It can also happen when high-energy dogs drink too much water because they don’t know when to stop. Small dogs in particular can take longer for their bodies to remove excess water from their system so they are at higher risk of a sustained electrolyte imbalance.

Anytime your pup is partaking in water activities, or prone to drinking more because it’s hot or they are playing a lot, monitor them closely for symptoms like lethargy, loss of coordination (stumbling, staggering), excessive drooling, vomiting, pale gums, glazed eyes, and dilated pupils.

If you suspect your dog is suffering from water intoxication, you’ll want to contact your vet right away.

Prevention is key, so be sure to supervise your pup during water activities and encourage them to take breaks from playing in the water (and from drinking too much at once!).
