Our entire family, including children, have a hand in playing with and caring for our litters. Photo #1 is Hobby Lobby finally has something to match my aesthetic. If you know me well, you get it. My daughters and I were laughing at a lot of the ones they have right now because we felt much better represented for once.

Photo #2 is the beginnings of me dismantling my shop. Those of you who have visited over the past 4-5 years have seen my workspace I had. It was a bit of chaos all the time, but it was a nice sanctuary for me to sew and be creative without anyone touching my stuff and to not clutter up my house with my creative bursts. The a/c was awesome for meetings in summer and heater was wonderful in winter - not being rained on in a parking lot was a plus too. They are raising rent, so I'm moving out, though. All meetings September and after will be likely close to where I was before, but may be at a local park or Starbucks or similar instead. We shall see. The move is in progress, but will take all the time between now and Aug.31 to complete. It's sad, but will save us some $$ in the long run. I just don't make enough on Etsy sales to keep it going, which was the primary purpose of it. No rats were housed there, just inventory for Etsy.

I had a lot of fun at the jr. high summer camp last weekend. Can't really share much of the photos because they all have my girls or other kids, but I did get pretty spirited with our green team stuff. You can't see all the glitter - but it was up and down my arms and legs and also all over my hair. The girls thought I was both crazy and awesome for bathing in glitter for them, so it was worth it. (I'm still washing glitter out of my hair...)

Picture #2 and #3 are of some of the shirts I tie dyed just before camp. We were the green team, so I did about a dozen green shirts with various logo colors to match them. The theme of camp was "Awaken" (for context). One of the greens that we had for dye came out kind of blue-green, but the shirts all came out very cool. My best tie dye batch yet. I wish I had gotten pictures of all the shirts prior to giving them out to the team. Ah well...

The rainbow swirl is just for fun for me. I may create a transfer that says "Jesus Freak" (one of my favorite adult leaders back when I was in high school gifted me a shirt just like that and it was the first gift I ever got from someone at church - memories!) I was also thinking of creating two transfers for it in spiral patterns that follow the colors, haven't decided what it will say yet. No rush and I could always make more shirts. I have a few more blanks I haven't yet dyed.

Tahlia and I have been doing a lot lately because there were some special events at the youth groups for church where high school and jr. high were together as a huge big group.
- Picture #1 of her send-off for camp (with a huge book for passing time during the drive)
- #2 is us enjoying ice cream at one of the youth events
- #3 is the tie dye shirt I made for her to commemorate her senior summer camp! She was blue team, but she likes purple, so I mixed them.

Tahlia has wanted a cat since she was about 2, but it's taken a while for her to get here.
The new purr-ball is very sweet and has already made friends with our current cat, Ashie, and our dog, Zippy.
Not too sure how she feels about the rats, she mostly looks, but ignores them. She likes Ashie best, but Ashie is not a huge fan yet. The energy level is pretty different between the two. So far their favorite game is running full speed OVER ME as I'm working at the computer. I am not amused.
It's hard to see Novel's coloring, but she is light gray tabby with a lot of orange pastel patches. I don't remember what it's called when they are a tabby torti like that, but she's very pretty.

Working on more rat pictures today, but I thought I'd add a few things that have been going on here in my world that are not necessarily rat related.
First up - we have a few new baby chicks that arrived on scene here. We keep a flock of about 15-20 throughout the year. Though we do a lot of safeguarding of the flock, we lose a few each year and so the group will grow and shrink.
This little one was hatched in my daughter's room under a heat lamp. It was already peeping and pecking at the egg, but the mom had left the nest outside so we brought it in to keep it safe while it hatched. There were a few siblings that hatched safely outside to two of our hens.
This was particularly exciting because none of our hens have ever been very broody, but we had three who decided to over the past couple months and we have a tiny group of 4 new chicks.
We also have added a little group of 3 from the store (2 olive eggers and a golden sex-linked).

Sadly we lost two hens this week to some unknown critter that tore THROUGH our wire. We count it luck it was only two, but they were my husband's favorite and my favorite, Zelda.
