Squeakin' Pups - Rattery

Squeakin' Pups - Rattery We specialize in breeding happy, healthy, & adorable pet rats + providing quality supplies & support. We are not an official rattery or business.

We specialize in breeding happy, healthy, and sociable pet rats. All of our Squeakin' Pups are held and loved on from the very first week of life. Our entire family, including children, have a hand in playing with and caring for our litters. We also socialize every litter with adult rats to make any transitions into established groups of rats easier. Our rat breeding is more of a hobby at this tim

e, and we've only been breeding since February of 2016. I do not claim to be an expert, and my rats have no pedigree and none of the litters are seen by a vet before adoption. Our goal is to simply provide sweet tempered pets you will be happy to love for their whole life.

Taking a few days to rest after all the craziness from pre-graduation & graduation last week. I'll be back with more videos of rats later this week to start scheduling for the rest of June. I may post them sooner, but I need some rest to recouperate from all the standing and walking I've been doing.

Hey all -
I am working on scheduling some special days for our older babies and retiree rats. Each day will have an age range of rats available and adopters will be able to come adopt for a lowered fee. I will be posting details on my website under the ANNOUNCEMENTS tab and the SCHEDULE tab under the ADOPTION menu.

I will post more details as I have them. The dates will likely be for the 20th and after. I will try to get pictures and videos of the rats available, however the appointments will be the same as always, first come first served via appointment. You must schedule a time to look with a deposit at least 2 days prior to the meeting dates. Each meeting block will be 10 minutes only to look and decide who to take home. First pick of each day will be 15 minutes because it has the most to choose from and is usually the hardest to decide for.

If you are interested please sign up for adoption now through our website:
https://squeakinpups.weebly.com/adoption-info.html

Scheduling dates will be offered by order of approval date. The sooner you apply, the earlier your appointment may be.

RAT-SITTING

Hey everyone, this is a time of year that I get a lot of requests regarding the boarding of rats or rat-sitting for others. I do not offer these services here at the rattery because it puts the rats I have here at risk for zoonotic diseases to spend time with other rats elsewhere or bring any into the rattery.

If you are a rat-sitter or open to boarding rats in your home while rat parents are on vacation this summer, please head over to our RESOURCE page and comment on the post there to let others know your services and terms: https://www.facebook.com/groups/SoCalRatResources

If you are a family that needs a sitter or boarding while going on vacation, please head there to check the post on Rat-sitters for someone you can use.

My personal recommendation is to pick someone who DOES NOT have any rats of their own right now. This is to protect against the spread of parasites or zoonotic diseases for your rats. It is very easy to transmit those things if your sitter owns or has rats in their home. Please also be aware of other items that can transmit from other sources, such as Bordatella that can be transmitted from dogs/cats who have received a live vaccine. Homes with no pets are best for boarding/sitters as there are fewer health risks to consider.

Also, be sure to ask about experience with rats when deciding on your pet-sitter. If they have no experience with rats, they are less likely to know what to do if your rat becomes sick or how to determine if your rat is unwell. Find someone who will adhere to any instructions you leave to keep your rats' routine fairly stable while you are away. This will reduce the rats' stress level while you are gone.

At this time I do not have anyone that has been recommended by my adopters as a good rat-sitter, so I don't have a specific person to recommend. If you do find someone that does an excellent job, goes above and beyond, and cares for your rats well while you are away, please please please let me know so I can recommend them to others.
Happy Vacationing Everybody!

Throwback Thursday
I was going through my photos today and I came across this one. This was my husband's first rat for us, who only warmed up to me. His name was Vader and his favorite spot was on top of my head.

These are from 10 years ago whee we first started. I'd just given him a bath and he wanted to seek solace in his happy spot. (My expression is me trying not to laugh during the first photo). Rats can be more than pets, they can be solace and comfort on a bad day. I had a lot more bad days back then and my rats gave me direction and purpose when everything else was a bit chaotic and I felt very alone a lot of the time. It's hard to believe it's only been 10 years - it feels like I've lived lifetimes in that span. My rats were a gift from God to help me find a better me - one who is braver, bolder, and more connected to everyone around me. They were a bridge back to the world I had hidden myself away from and wings for me to fly on.

Adoptions are going well this week, we are less than two days into offering and I’ve gotten 5 girls and 2 boys reserved so far. Still plenty of room, including the Dwarf boys and girls that are looking for homes (I can accommodate one adopter each for those).

If anyone is interested in adopting, please head to the website and complete the forms.

I’m posting a video of one of our dwarf girls tonight - she is so sweet!
