Humane Society of Preble County Our animal shelter has a 40+ year history in Eaton! Hours: 11 am to 5:00 pm - Monday through Thursday
11 am to 4 pm - Friday and Saturday.

We are closed on Sundays and all major Holidays.

Back in May we posted about our dashingly handsome Kona having been with us for 3 years. 𝑇ℎ𝑟𝑒𝑒! And here he still waits.

At 5 years old, Kona is a ruggedly good looking Husky that is literally everything you could want in a companion: calm (but still playful), gentle, and amazing with kids. He walks beautifully on a leash making walks an enjoyable experience instead of a tug-of-war. He does well with other dogs though we think deep down he'd love to have you all to himself, soaking up the love he's missed for far too long.

He's been patient. He's been resilient. Now, he just needs someone to see him and say, "You're coming home." If you're looking for a loyal dog who's past the puppy chaos but still full of life and love, then Kona might just be your perfect match.

ADOPTED: All of our Poodle pups have been adopted and have either gone to their new forever homes or will be very soon (pending vet appointments)!

Thank you to all that applied to give them a good home! If you applied but did not hear back from us, it does not necessarily mean you were denied. There were many applications and only 6 of these puppies. If you're still interested in adding a fur baby to your family, please give us a call and let us know!

Name that movie: "and here's the bottom line - our trio's down to two."

That's exactly how Macklin and Brennan are feeling now that their friend Charlie has been adopted! These two handsome pups are patiently waiting for their forever home by spending their days playing and romping through our field. They would each love to find a family with a dog brother or sister to play with. They'd even allow a mini-human to stand in for some comradery. They're both ready to fine tune their manners and learn new tricks. Macklin will turn one year old on October 25th and Brennan doesn't know his birthday but it's likely pretty close to Macklin's (no, they're not related, they're just shelter-mates). No, they do not need to be adopted together. Also, check the comments for a quick video to make your heart happy.

UPDATE 8/26/25 @ 10:15 A.M.: Dixie has a pending adoption!

**ADOPTION PENDING**: Dixie is a 2 year old female Standard Poodle and is the mother of our 6 Noodle Poodles! She has been a wonderfully attentive mother but as they go off to their new homes, she too will be looking for someone to love her the rest of her life. She is very smart, gentle, obedient, gets along well with other dogs and cats, and loves everyone she meets. Dixie weighs 50 lbs.

ATTENTION: We have found ourselves in possession of a rare breed combo - the Silver Meerkat mixed with a big splash of Love-a-Bull. This unusual specimen has never before been seen by man - until today! Sully the Silver Meerkat came to us with two broken front legs but we don't think that's why he does his adorable meerkat stance (which has yet to be photographed). We think it's just a special trademark of his personality! After a few procedures to correct his broken bones and time to heal, he's feeling much better. He even plays with Trevor the lobby cat! The best thing about Sully is that he never stops wanting your love. As is typical with the Love-a-Bull, he LOVES head pets and belly rubs and just being close to his people and let us tell you, everyone is his people! He has his moments of talking in a language we've only begun to understand but he also enjoys just stretching out in the sun on a soft bed of grass. Sully will make a great addition to any family!
