🌈🐾 National Rainbow Bridge Day 🐾🌈

Today, we remember the beloved pets who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge and left paw prints on our hearts forever. 💔🌈

For many of us, they were never just pets. They were family. They were there for the good days, the hard days, the quiet moments, and all the memories in between. They loved us unconditionally, and somehow, they made our lives a little brighter simply by being in them. 🐶🐱🐰❤️

As a veterinary team, we are incredibly honored to be trusted during one of the most difficult moments a pet parent can face. Saying goodbye is never easy, but it is a privilege to be there to provide comfort, compassion, and dignity when our patients need it most.

Today, we remember the silly personalities, the favorite toys, the muddy paws, the purrs, the zoomies, the cuddles, and all the little things that made each one so incredibly special.

🌈 Until we meet again at the Rainbow Bridge, may their memories always be a reminder of how deeply they were loved.

🚨 Client Alert: New World Screwworm – What Pet Owners Need to Know 🚨

🚨Pet owners traveling near Texas and Mexico🚨

You may have heard about New World screwworm in the news. It’s important for pet owners and livestock owners to know what to watch for.

🪰 What is a screwworm?
Unlike ordinary flies that lay eggs on dead tissue, New World screwworm flies lay their eggs in open wounds. When the eggs hatch, the larvae (maggots) feed on living tissue, causing painful, rapidly worsening wounds that require immediate veterinary care.

⚠️ Signs to Watch For:
• A wound that suddenly becomes larger or more painful
• Foul odor coming from a wound
• Drainage or bleeding
• Visible maggots in a wound
• Excessive licking, biting, or scratching at one area
• Lethargy or decreased appetite

🐶 How to Protect Your Pets:
✔️ Check your pets regularly for cuts, scrapes, or skin irritation.
✔️ Keep all wounds clean and covered when possible.
✔️ Seek veterinary care promptly for wounds that are deep, infected, or slow to heal.
✔️ Keep up with routine grooming, especially in long-haired pets.

❗ If you see maggots in any wound, contact your veterinarian immediately. Early treatment is critical to prevent extensive tissue damage.

Hello all,

Next week Dr Hickey will be out of the office on vacation. She will be gone July 27- August 2. And will return Monday August 3, 2026.

That being said we will have a relief veterinarian coming in , Dr. Nealeigh. She is a local resident and works within the community. She has covered for Dr. Hickey numerous times and has had great client feedback.

We ask you to please respect Dr.hickey’s time off by leaving her alone while she’s on vacation.
She deserves the opportunity to relax without being contacted regarding medical questions.

Our hours next week will remain the same.

🌽 Summer Safety Reminder: Keep Corn Cobs Away From Your Dogs! 🐶⚠️

Grilling season is here, which means corn on the cob is a backyard favorite—but it’s one food that should never be shared with your dog.

While the corn itself may not be the biggest concern, the cob can be extremely dangerous. Dogs often swallow large pieces or even the entire cob, which can become lodged in the stomach or intestines and cause a life-threatening blockage.

🚨 Signs of an intestinal blockage include:
• Vomiting
• Loss of appetite
• Lethargy
• Abdominal pain
• Straining to defecate or inability to pass stool
• Diarrhea

A blockage can quickly cut off blood supply to the intestines, causing the tissue to die. This is a surgical emergency and delaying treatment can have serious consequences.

🗑️ Help keep your pets safe:
✔️ Throw corn cobs directly into a secure outdoor trash can.
✔️ Never leave corn cobs on plates, picnic tables, or unattended where curious dogs can reach them.
✔️ Remind family and guests not to feed table scraps containing corn cobs.

If you think your dog has eaten a corn cob, don’t wait for symptoms to appear. Contact your veterinarian or an emergency veterinary hospital as soon as possible. Early intervention can make all the difference.

🐾 A little extra caution this summer can help keep your furry family members safe!

Hello all!!!

Remember to call to order medication for fireworks this week so we can make sure to have it in before July 4th.

We will NOT be in the office Friday July 3rd.

SOME TIPS TO HELP WITH FIREWORKS

🎆 keep them inside and close the curtains, have the tv or radio on to help with the sound
🎇walk pets before it gets dark so they are not outside when fireworks are going off
🎆 have on a leash at all times!
🎇let them hide if they want to
🎆 provide a compressive wrap, products like the thunder jacket
🎇 early potty breaks!

Make sure to contact the clinic to get medication if needed to help with fireworks. Also be sure to keep the fur babies on a leash so they don’t get spooked and run away if unexpected fireworks get set off!

This little fella was hit by a car in Eaton by the court house. A couple people stopped and was able to catch him in a towel to bring him into our clinic to be treated. He is a neutered male orange and white and looks like he might have had his nails trimmed recently which is what makes us thinks he might belong to someone.

‼️🚨Cutie Alert! ‼️ 🚨

Good Evening everyone, meet Dixie! Dixie is a rescue after she was dumped. She is being fostered by a Client of ours. Dixie is a 15 week old Husky/Heeler mix. The client is looking to rehome her, as she was given to her to help save her. Unfortunately with working and owning two dogs she does not feel she can give Dixie the time and training she deserves. She is almost completely crate trained and potty trained, with only occasional accidents because she is scared. She knows her name, is leash trained, knows how to sit, and they are still working on shake and lay down. She has had her first round of shots and is coming in for her second round of shots next week. The owner fostering her is asking for a small rehoming fee, as she had a rough time before her. She recommends that she goes to a home with a larger yard due to her energetic breed. Dixie loves to run and play with her other dog. Dixie has recently discovered the swimming pool and loves to be in it. She does amazing with other kids and other dogs, she is a vocal dog but loves to play. She has a crate for her however if she keeps growing like a w**d she will need a bigger one soon! She also has a leash and collar for her.
