I often joke that my horses would consider my set up at home- “redneck trailer park level!” With the barn up now, it makes it easier for me to give these guys the care I’ve always wanted. I firmly believe that the best environment for a horse is outside whenever possible. I don’t bring them in when it rains or snows, they don’t stay in a stall at night- they’re outside unless something is effecting them physically. They have a very large run in and barely use it. I believe in letting them just be horses, as long as they aren’t getting injured.
The one thing I can’t stand however, is listening to them stomp and watching them constantly swishing their tails because the bugs are so bad. I can’t stand bugs on me for even a few seconds and I have the ability to remove them from my body, horses do not. And a horse is so sensitive, they feel every single one. I also see a lot of leg injuries or leg soreness/swelling when I do Magna Wave this time of year and I often attribute it to trying to stomp off the flies. It’s not something most people consider, but if your horse is constantly coming up sore or swollen, this may be something to consider.
To me, this is a necessity to help keep them sound right now…
Anyways, I’m happy they’re home- I’m not sure they’re as thrilled about it though…IYKYK!
Oh and PS- bugs are afraid of Dragonflies…you’re welcome!
