🖤❤️💛💚 Happy Juneteenth! 💚💛❤️🖤

Today we celebrate freedom, resilience, and the enduring spirit of those who fought for equality. Juneteenth marks the day when the last enslaved Americans learned of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.

As we honor this important day in history, Durant Animal Services will be closed in observance of the holiday. We wish everyone a safe and meaningful Juneteenth as we reflect on the values of freedom, unity, and community.

🚗🐾 Traveling With Your Pets? Safety Comes First! 🐾🚗

Whether you're heading across town or across the country, a little preparation can help keep your furry family members safe and comfortable on the road.

✔️ Secure pets with a crate, carrier, or pet seatbelt
✔️ Make sure your pet is wearing current ID tags
✔️ Pack food, water, medications, and waste bags
✔️ Never leave pets unattended in a vehicle
✔️ Plan for regular potty and exercise breaks
✔️ Keep a recent photo of your pet in case they become lost

Remember, even a quick stop can become dangerous in warm weather. Temperatures inside a vehicle can rise rapidly, putting your pet at serious risk.

🐾 Meet Darla — Your New Best Friend! 🖤

Darla is a beautiful black Pit mix, estimated to be between 1 and 3 years old, with a heart as sweet as her wagging tail.

From the moment you approach her kennel, Darla is ready to go with gentle excitement. No jumping, no excessive barking , just happy tail wags and a hopeful look that says, “Pick me.”

Once outside, Darla shines. She walks wonderfully on a leash with very little pulling and loves taking relaxed strolls while sniffing the grass and enjoying the world around her. In the play yard, she calmly explored every corner, content to investigate and simply spend time with her human companion. Tennis balls? Not really her thing. Darla would much rather hang out by your side and soak up your company.

Darla appears calm and well-mannered around other dogs, showing no issues when walking through the kennel area. While formal dog introductions are still pending, her easygoing nature is very promising.

This sweet, mild-mannered girl has all the qualities of an incredible family companion. She’s affectionate, gentle, and ready to leave shelter life behind for a loving home where she can finally relax and be cherished.

🏡 Darla isn’t asking for much, just a family to love and a couch to call her own.

Today, we remember the beloved pets who shared our lives, filled our homes with joy, and loved us without conditions. They celebrated our happiest moments, comforted us through our hardest days, and became part of our families in ways words can hardly describe.

They were never "just animals." They were our loyal friends, our confidants, our family members, and our constant companions.
