I want to clarify that last post referencing Lisa and Rebecca. I have been approached by many people asking about them and if we have had a working relationship with these businesses. No, we do not and have not. I simply do not know enough about their operations to confidently refer either of them. I hope this clears up the minor confusion. Thanks again for everything!!!

06/03/2020

Also, I want to be clear that we do NOT recommend or endorse Grooming by Rebecca or Lisa at Lotus Farm in any way. I have had some of you reach out about them and I do not feel comfortable sending any of our pups to them. I am not going to give out any recommendations unless I know how they operate and have been getting good feedback from other professional groomers, vets, and clients who have been to them.

Hello Everyone,
Regretfully the Dirty Dog Wash & Salon will not be reopening after the Covid-19 shut down. This was a difficult decision to make and we will miss our Dog Wash family deeply.
The main reason for this decision is the lack of available and qualified groomers to hire. Although there are many people interested in dog grooming, there are very few who have the skill and physical ability to keep up on a professional level.
We thank all of our wonderful clients for your support and patronage of the Dirty Dog Wash for the last 24 years. It has been an amazing run and we will never forget all of the kindness and love our community has shown us over the all these years. We will miss you all very much.

Hello everyone!
The Dirty Dog Wash will remain closed in compliance with the order announced on May 14th by Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich. The order mandates that all nonessential businesses remain closed until further notice from Montgomery County. Animal control officers have assured me that Montgomery County does not consider dog grooming essential and that the Dirty Dog Wash would be in violation for operating during a shut-down order. Because of the risk of losing our operating license and our concern for the safety of our community, the Dirty Dog Wash will remain closed until the County order is lifted.
Thank you for you patience and understanding.
We will implement new procedures for operation when we reopen.
The new procedures will be posted on our website once we have them drafted. These new procedures will be designed to insure everyone’s safety.
Thank you again and stay well.

Hello to our fur clients and their humans,
We hope everyone is healthy and safe💜 We have been getting alot of questions about when we will be opening back up. Unfortunately this is not our choice, we have been deemed non-essential (crazy right?!?!) and are still not allowed to open. With that being said we do not have a re-open date, nor can we schedule future dates because we do not know when we will be able to return back to work yet.

We were getting frustrated hearing about PetSmart stores still grooming so we felt compelled to confirm. We have been in touch with the MD health department and Montgomery county animal control Police, who have confirmed that grooming is non-essential and we are NOT allowed to operate. Petsmarts that are allowing grooming are in violation of the state order but were told by corporate to ignore it. The stores that are open for grooming are getting fines and court dates. Again this information is coming from the MC animal control police department. We are not a million dollar corporation and cannot afford the fines, nor the possible jail time. This leaves us closed for now and pending on new operations/protocols to follow for when we do open back up.

We want everyone to know that we miss you all and we can't wait to get back in the shop to help out all of your fur kiddos! We know everyone is struggling during this time and trying to cope as best they can. We are more than happy to give you specific tips/tricks for at home grooming, for your individual pup if needed. Don't be afraid to reach out to us!

Love from all of us at the Dog Wash!

We've been getting asked about these products, so here they are on Amazon (grinder at lowes)
1 is the detangler we use
2 looks like the best toenail clippers on Amazon
3 styptic powder in case you clip your dogs quick
4 toenail grinder

My suggestion for clipping your dogs nails is to either have someone hold your pup (if small enough) or to put your pet up on a table to do it (this way they can't escape as easily and you can see toenails better). Just clip the tips off alittle at a time if you aren't familiar with doing them regularly.

Let’s make the best of being stuck at home and have a little fun. Post your best “Omg! I have to try to do this myself!” Pet Hair Doo photos on our FB page.
We will be judging 4 categories:
Best Face/Head Trim
Best Feet Trim
Best Brush Out
Best Overall
Our staff will award the winner of each category 15$ in Barney Bones to spend at the Dog Wash
Best Overall winner will receive 25$ in Barney Bones

Good luck!!

Hello Everyone,
Recently, we have received inquiries about taking grooming appointments at our homes or traveling to clients homes while the Dog Wash is not able to be open. For several reasons, we are not able to provide our services in this capacity. It saddens and frustrates us that we cannot safely service all of our beloved canines at this moment.
Maintaining the safety of our clients families and our own is our priority. This is why we aren’t able to service our clients in a home setting. The Covid 19 virus is extremely contagious. We do not have our proper grooming equipment, have no personal protection equipment, aren’t able to preform adequate cleaning procedures and have no way to maintain safe social distancing while grooming. For these reasons, we cannot accommodate these requests for in home grooming. We understand as this crisis is playing out over these last weeks (and possibly quite a few more) why we are receiving these inquiries.
Of course, it is obvious that grooming is an integral part of caring for our pets. However, general pet grooming that does not constitute a health emergency is considered non essential.
Maryland State Police and Montgomery Co Animal Control Police have the authority to shut down any pet groomers, including mobile, during this crisis. Any grooming businesses that haven’t been in compliance and are still operating can be fined up to 5000$ and/or be sentenced to up to 1 year in jail.
The Dog Wash has been closed for a month now. Being shut down has been a great sacrifice of not only our income but our way of life. We are Craft Groomers, professional dog grooming for us is a true labor of love and service. It is our culture.
We ask you for your cooperation in doing your best to keep your pup clean and brushed at home for now. We have posted some grooming tutorials on this page and we are more than happy and available to answer any questions via text, email, or phone call to assist and offer advice.
We intend to remain in compliance with the State of Maryland Emergency Orders. We are all in this together. We miss all of you and cannot wait to see everyone safely at the end of this crisis. Stay well friends and thank you all for your patience and understanding.

As promised the tools you need to help you with brushing your pups at home.

Below is the link to find all these brushes. Click on brushes, combs, and dematting tools to find them.
http://www.groomersmall.com/

The first brush is called FLATBACK ETCHED COMBS. This is the most important brush that everyone needs in their collection. It is to be used on every coat type. They are especially good for dematting your dog. They come in multiple sizes for your comfort.

The second brush is called PAW PRINT EXTRA LARGE PIN SLICKER BRUSH. This brush is great on long haired, double coated, shedding breeds (Golden Retrievers, Newfoundlands, Shetland Sheepdogs, etc). It also works great on doodles kept in a long, fluffy cut.

The third brush is called MIRACLE COAT SLICKER BRUSH. This brush is great brush for all coat types, shedding and non shedding pups. It is important to remember to use this brush in practice with your comb.

The third brush is called MIRACLE COAT GROOMING RAKE. This brush is great on long haired, double coated, shedding dogs (Golden Retrievers, Newfoundlands, Bernese Mountain dogs, etc).

To our dearest clients,

For the safety and health of our human clients and staff we have decided to close the Dog Wash until further notice. The Covid 19 virus is fast spreading and aggressive. It is important to remember that the Covid 19 virus isn’t present internally in our pups, however, it can be present topically on their coats (just like on any other surface) from anyone who may be carrying the virus, even if they are asymptomatic. Of course, we also see many clients per day just dropping off/ picking up their pups.

We do not want to contribute to spreading the Covid 19 virus in any way. We came to this decision by consulting with other pet care professionals and contacts within other government health care agencies that have reassured us that we are doing the right thing.

This has been an extremely tough decision to make but we feel strongly it is for the greater good of our community. We are very sorry for any inconvenience. We will be in touch when we feel it is safe to reschedule.

Please feel free to email, text or call us with any concerns or questions you may have. We will be checking our messages daily.

Thanks from all of us at the Dirty Dog Wash 🐶😁💗

Bo**er really misses you all. I had to trim ears, tail, and butt feathers. She also got a bath after rolling in watermelon juice. She is not amused and my clipper skills suck. Keep safe and we will see you after you reopen and take care of all the Berners first!
Thank you!! For always doing an amazing job on my Rex.
We're so excited that you're joining us for Paws in the Park! Thanks for donating the great prize of a $40 gift certificate!
Just recently moved from Poolesvile. Wanted to say thanks to everyone for always taking such good care of Charlie. Thanks Liz, Cheyenne and Margo. Sorry we missed you Cheyenne Kelly Kitzmiller at Charlie's last visit.
