โ I faced a big fear.
๐ I honestly would feel safer holding a snake over driving a horse, much less a 1600lb horse.
I absolutely admire the horses and horsemen who can do this and make it look so effortless โ but Iโve also experienced the absolute power of a mini pony when itโs out of controlโฆ so I can only imagine the strength these big guys have! ๐
It takes a special kind of trust, timing, feel, and horsemanship to make that much power look easy.
I have three horses right now that have many miles under harness, so I told Menno Miller that I would like to tackle this fear and learn how to drive. (If you havenโt seen my video of Menno driving a 6 up and galloping them, Iโll post it in the comments.)
His daughter Dorothy was so great at handling my nerves and talking me through the process. I left the audio on the video so you can experience the full novice adventure right along with us! ๐
I drove all three horses yesterday, loped two of them in the arena, and Bruno โ the one here โ we loped on the highway. ๐
Iโll tell you thisโฆ an experienced horse makes ALL the difference. Every one of them took care of me, and it was such a good reminder of what it feels like to be a beginner again.
It also reminded me how much teamwork, trust, training, and good-minded horses matter when it comes to having a safe and successful experience. I have so much admiration for the people and horses that do this every day and make it look easy!
So if anyone knows of a cart for sale-Iโm looking! ๐คฃ
