My Cash is Gone aka “Wesley” is a 2016 15.2hh dark bay registered AQHA gelding. He comes with a very sweet disposition which makes him friendly and quite easy to catch. He’s been the meet you in the stall kind of guy! I’ve found that he is very eager to please, has a lot of try, and learns quickly.
He has proven to be a remarkably calm, willing, and adventurous trail horse - he will ride front, middle, or back but truly prefers leading in the front and is good to lead with nearly any level of experienced trail rider on him. He is not spooky, reactive, etc. He will get a tad bit antsy if a beginner rider or nervous rider has a lot of hold on his face and leg pressure. Let him lead, give him his head and enjoy his ground covering walk and quiet confidence! He has the ability to keep up with the mules and gaited horses, will hang with the Qh’s, and has a nice, extended, confident stride to him. He rides with his head low and reins draped. You can check him or turn him in a circle and ask him to walk alongside other horses, as well. Just might take a couple requests for extended consistency in a slow, slow pace. Move him through his gaits along the trail and he’s happy to enjoy the ride ears perked. He has a nice lope and forward trot. We’ve been working on slowing his trot/shortening his stride with some more collection. Due to his lofty trot, I would say he’s better under supervision/ponied with a beginner rider on him. Ride him out alone or with the group, he’s good either way. He goes over bridges, tarps, poles, downed trees, etc. He will go through water (when asked to go first he did take a little coaxing to go through the center instead of around it initially on a recent ride). He’s great with being sprayed off by the hose, a one person job. When meeting other oncoming horses on the trail, once in a great while, he will let out a little whinny after they’ve passed and didn’t follow behind us. Not sure why but it’s a quirk, he is not trying to go with them so I have not gotten after him.
While Wesley loves the trails and road riding over anything, he will also go to work in an arena. He is ridden in a snaffle and is willing to do what is asked of him. He has some buttons installed and is responsive to the requests of his rider, listening well to leg cues, voice commands, etc but could be bridled up a bit more with some collection and suppling. I would prefer to sell him to someone who loves trail riding, as that’s where he is happiest and excels as a confident steed. He can pony other horses or be ponied off other horses.
Wesley stands nicely for grooming, vet and farrier. He loads in and out of the trailer willingly. He is barefoot and has always been barefoot with nice feet. He is not a very reactive type of horse and is not at all spooky on trails, he seems to take new introductions in stride, moving towards objects he questions (like a tipped over kayak he had never seen in front of the bridge on a recent ride).
Wesley is currently pasture boarded and prefers the outdoor life, although he does come inside the barn to eat in his stall in the evenings. He has been stalled overnight in the barn in the past and is good with that also. He is not a hard keeper and stays healthy on hay and pasture during summer. He gets a little bit of grain and sq**rt of gutx when everyonee else is eating once per day during winter. Wesley is best when pastured with geldings or mares only. From our experience, a mixed herd had him jealous/protective of HIS mares and he chased an older gelding away. However, he is currently with my young 2yo gelding and multiple mares and is content… could be different dependent on different pasture setting. No bite, kick, rear or buck when riding, healthy and utd on cares. Coggins and papers in hand. Ready for fall trails! 🍁 🍂
