The worst thing for a cast is getting wet and this heifer has three more weeks in a cast and making friends through the fence.

The vet adjusted the cast yesterday to let her keep growing because a baby calf grows a lot in the first three weeks.

We took a few calves to the sales barn last evening. One was Cameron’s bull calf he showed this summer, Nick. They connected, after Nick got away from him half a dozen times, and so it was tough for Cameron.

He help load and unload the calves and even wanted to watch the sale, but he’ll be in school.

The drive home was quiet until he said, “It’s sad but I know I took good care of Nick and that’s all I could do.”

I’ll share my response because saying it out loud was a reminder I needed. “That’s all any of us can do, our best, no matter what comes at us.”
