📢 Closure Notice for Tuesday, June 30

Halifax Humane Society will be closed all day on Tuesday, June 30, for an all-staff training.

This dedicated training day gives our team the opportunity to come together, continue learning, strengthen procedures, and ensure we are providing the best possible care for the animals and people who depend on us each day.

From animal care and safety to customer service, adoptions, medical support, and daily shelter operations, ongoing staff training is an important part of helping us grow as a team and better serve our community.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we take this time to invest in our staff and the lifesaving work happening at Halifax Humane Society.

Regular hours of operation will resume on Wednesday, July 1.

A storm plan is not complete without a pet plan. 🐶🐱

Before severe weather arrives, take a few minutes to register your pet for free with Petco Love Lost and mark them as “Safe at Home.” This free national lost and found pet database uses photo-matching technology to help reunite lost pets with the people who love them.

Having your pet’s profile created ahead of time adds an extra layer of protection if they ever become lost, especially during the confusion of a storm or evacuation.

After registering, take the next step by preparing your pet’s emergency kit. Be sure to include food, water, medications, vaccination records, a leash or carrier, a recent photo, and familiar comfort items.

This week’s adoptable dogs are ready for all the good stuff: morning walks, couch naps, car rides, squeaky toys, beach days, snack time, and someone to call their own. Some are playful and goofy, some are gentle and easygoing, and some just need a little time to show you how special they are.

Happy Tails, Copper! 🐾💙 �
Copper, formerly Woodstock, is a 2-year-old pup who was transferred to Halifax Humane Society in February from our partner shelter, Miami-Dade Animal Services, when they were facing limited space and needed support helping pets find loving homes. �
After arriving in our care, Copper only had to wait five short days before finding his new family.

We recently received the sweetest update from Copper’s adopters, and it is safe to say he is living his best life. His days are now filled with car rides with the breeze blowing through his fur, trips to Good Times Dog Bar to socialize with his friends, neighborhood adventures where he has become a local favorite, and relaxing beach days surrounded by people who love him.

Stories like Copper’s are made possible because of compassionate adopters, dedicated staff, shelter partners, and supporters who continue to donate and stand behind our lifesaving work. Every transfer, every adoption, and every second chance takes a community.

Thank you to Copper’s family for opening their hearts and home to him, and thank you to everyone who helps make Happy Tails like this possible. 💙

Happy Gotcha Day to all of the pets who found loving homes this week! 🐾💙

Every pet adopted from Halifax Humane Society has been examined by a veterinarian, spayed or neutered, microchipped, started on age-appropriate vaccinations, and started on preventatives before heading home. Each adoption represents so much more than a happy photo — it is a new beginning made possible by adopters who choose to open their hearts and homes to a shelter pet.

To everyone who adopted this week, thank you for giving these animals the love, comfort, and second chance they deserve.

Ronald’s beach day was one for the books. 🐾🌊

Ronald, who up until recently was our longest-stay dog, spent the day out of the shelter with one of our dedicated volunteers through our Dog’s Day Out program this week, and it is safe to say he made the most of every moment. From feeling the sand beneath his paws to enjoying the fresh air, sunshine, and a much-deserved adventure, Ronald had the best day.

Dog’s Day Out gives shelter dogs a chance to step away from the shelter environment, explore new places, enjoy one-on-one time, and show off their personalities outside of their kennels. These outings provide enrichment, exercise, socialization, and valuable insight that helps us learn even more about each dog as they wait for adoption.

We are happy to report that shortly after Ronald’s outing, he found a loving home who welcomed him with open hearts.

A huge thank you to the wonderful volunteer who gave Ronald such a special day. Outings like this mean so much to the dogs in our care, especially long-stay pets like Ronald. And another huge thank you to Ronald’s adoptive family.

Male cat neuters are one of the most effective ways to help reduce the number of unwanted litters in our community. Through Neuter Scooter for a Nickel, Halifax Humane Society is making this lifesaving service more accessible with male cat neuter surgeries available for just 5¢ now through June 30.

Our goal is to complete 900 male cat neuters by June 30, and every appointment brings us closer. This is not just about one cat. It is about preventing future litters, supporting healthier cats, and helping reduce the number of animals who may one day enter shelters without homes.
