The Florida Department of Health in Volusia County has issued a 60-day rabies alert for a portion of Daytona Beach following a confirmed case of rabies in an unvaccinated cat found near the intersection of A1A and Hartford Avenue.

The alert area extends from Plaza Boulevard to Golf Boulevard and from the Atlantic Ocean west to the Halifax River.

Residents and visitors are urged to avoid contact with wild or stray animals, keep pets vaccinated and under supervision, and report animal bites or scratches immediately. If your pet has been exposed to a wild animal, contact your veterinarian and Daytona Beach Animal Control at (386) 248-1777. If you have been bitten or scratched by an animal, seek medical attention and report the incident to the Florida Department of Health in Volusia County at (386) 274-0651.
