Linear Appraisal scores 🌻

While we are not quite where we want to be, we are getting there and happy with the whole day. We got to observe, ask questions, and learn even more.

The trick for our next LA is to get our girls to stay full. We did for them like we do for any show or fair in regards to uddering up. Well, NO one wanted to show up on LA day, which did affect scores not having the capacity. It was extremely hot and had to sit in a trailer, so I cannot really fault them. I have photo proof they can udder up and milk test scores 🤣🫣🤦‍♀️. Maybe next time girls.

First up!

Denna's Nigerian does

Daisy: 4 yr 4th fresh, VEEV 88
Honeysuckle: 1.5 yr 1st fresh, GVVG 84
These two are a mother daughter pair ❤️

Tungsten's LaMancha and Experimental

Pearl: 3 yr 3rd fresh, GGAA 81
Monet: 2 yr 1st fresh, GGAG 81

Another mother daughter pair ❤️ Monet definitely was an improvement over Pearl! Cannot wait to see further freshenings.

My Nubians

Phoenix: 7 yr 6th fresh, VEEA 82
Raven: 3 yr 3rd fresh, VVGG 84
Kimber: 1.5 yr 1st fresh, GGAF 77
Dancer: 3 yr 2nd fresh, VGAG 84

BUCKS

Prince: 2 yr LaMancha, GVV 86
Moshe: 4yr Nigerian Dwarf, GEE 86

While I was hoping for some higher scores, again, mammary counts for a lot on the scorecard and if the milk isnt there in a dairy animal it will not count. We will try again next time!

From where we started to where we are, I am happy. AND! Denna's no big name doe, Daisy scoring so well is amazing and gives credit to your friends who are trying just as hard as you ❤️

So...a little about us. We are a young farm, only starting around 2017. Getting into dairy goats because my husband's grandpa wanted the milk.

At first, I was reluctant because all I remembered were the gross boers I had to deal with on the horse farm I worked at as a young girl. I soon caved as I did some research, and brought home our first few. Who knew they would be so sweet? And addicting 🫣🤣

We soon met many people locally who helped us along our journey getting into goats. There is so much to learn, and even when you think you are starting to get it, something new happens that knocks you for a loop!

You get into goats, not really knowing what you are looking for or at on the goat in according to body type and udder, and bring home the first "big name" you see on pedigrees. Then, quickly realize that just because the names are there, does not mean you won the genetic lottery. Genetics are funny. Just like in humans. So while paper says they should look like XYZ, they may not, it may be more alphabet soup, but you keep trying. Also, that your friendly neighbor who raises goats, may have a diamond sitting there 🌻

It takes time to start developing the eye to catch what a good goat is supposed to look like according to the ADGA scorecard. We 100% are still learning but feel like we are getting better.

We raise ADGA registered dairy goats. LaMancha, Nigerian Dwarf, Nubian, and experimentals. Each one of us (Tungsten, Denna, and I) like something a little different...goofy, small, aliens 🤣

We have had to look at our herd and move many that were not serving the purpose of getting where we needed to be. While it is hard to move them, you cannot go forward if you keep getting stuck or going in reverse. Or as my Papaw has told me on more than one occasion, "You cannot make chicken salad out of chicken s**t." 🤣🫣 I've never forgotten it and makes me laugh every time, but oh so true. I have also had people tell me, and read many times, breed for what you want and like. This is also another we go by. We may try hard to go by the scorecard but we also keep what we like and what works for us.

While we may not have perfect goats, we have good goats, and are always working towards even better goats and goals. Great animals that stand up for longevity in health and production but also good temperaments, and sometimes pleasing to the eye in color/flash.

Thank you for sticking around this long! We are going to be posting our overdue LA scores and then introduce our does and bucks and maybe a few keepers ❤️

Who needs a cute, blue eyed doeling. She is going as a pet ❤️

She did break her back right leg, but with it being splinted and rest, she has recovered well. Acts like it never happened.

Born in April and super, super sweet.

***SOLD***

Handsome, blonde moonspotted American buck looking for new ladies.

Who likes old genetics? I LOVE them...but I don't need two almost identical bucks carrying them. He has been sitting around not being used to his fullest potential.

Kismet Marvins Smooth Operator and Halcienda Frosty Marvin and others ❤️ ADGA pedigree below.

3 kids on the ground by him this year. One is an experimental doeling growing like a w**d and hardy and the other two are buckling born around June 11th and weighed 30 lb by our fair July 13th!

Experimental ADGA yearling doe. Grace is 50/50 LaMancha/Nubian. A pretty chocolate brown with a single moonspot at the base of her neck at the withers.

Tungsten is making cuts to narrow down what he wants in his herd and decided to let her go. She has also been shown in our fair the last two years.

Her dam was predicted to makes over 2,000 lbs as a yearling FF, until she dried herself off after getting bred.

Beautiful PB doeling, born early February. She may possibly have an extra or***ce so will ONLY be sold without papers.

She would make a great pet or homestead milker. Was a bottle baby and she is super sweet.

Dark brown and heavily moonspotted and comes from good milking lines.

Fair Day 7

We made it! The last day ❤️ Denna had contesting with Lily today; barrels, poles, keyhole, and flag. While they got no times, they performed better than they did Thursday, and had fun doing it.

Goat Olympics for Tungsten and Denna sith their goats, Milele and Daisy. It is always a good time!

Packed up our gear, cleaned pens, and got all the critters home.

We look forward to Fair. Watching our kids and our friends' kids show their projects....the dedication and hardwork they put in. To see their growth and resilience. Watch old friendships grow and new ones develop. So many good memories 🥰

Goodbye to a great fair and till next year ❤️🍀

Please consider supporting Tungsten and Denna in the 4-H Livestock

I wanted to share that Tungsten and Denna have been working incredibly hard this year raising their goats for the local 4-H livestock auction. This project has taught them responsibility, dedication, and valuable life skills.

The auction is today, and the proceeds will go directly into college college savings fund. If you're able and willing, we’d be so grateful for your support—whether by bidding at the auction, contributing as an add-on donor, or simply helping spread the word.

Every bit makes a difference and encourages Tungsten and Denna to continue pursuing their goals. Thank you for supporting youth in agriculture and helping invest in their future!

Warm regards,
The Winglers

Fair Day 5

Horse Show Day

Denna got to show Gracie abd Lily in western halter, ranch pleasure, and trail in hand.

She got 4ths and a 6th with Lily and 1sts with Gracie in her class. Got frustrated and upset with how Lily was behaving and wanted to sit out the rest of her classes. Time to work more and harder for next year.

Fair Day 4

Dairy Cow Show

Denna took 2nd with her fall Jersey heifer
Tungsten took 4th with his fall Jersey heifer

Both did not place in showmanship. They have a lot to learn before next year and lots of practice to put in.

Horses were brought in tonight and bathed for show tomorrow. Another early wake up call and prep ❤️
