🐾 Is “Grain-Free” Better? Let’s Talk Pet Food Myths 🐾

Walk down the pet food aisle and you’ll see words like natural, premium, and grain-free everywhere… but a fancy bag doesn’t always mean it’s the healthiest choice. 👀

For many dogs, grains are a safe, nutritious source of important nutrients. The concern comes from some grain-free diets that use high amounts of ingredients like peas, lentils, and legumes as replacements for grains. These grain free diets have been investigated for a possible connection to dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) — a disease that affects the heart’s ability to pump properly.

The tricky part? Heart changes can happen quietly before you ever notice a problem. ❤️

Keep an eye out for:
🐾 Less energy or tiring quickly
🐾 Coughing
🐾 Difficulty breathing
🐾 Weakness or fainting episodes
🐾 A decrease in normal activity

Choosing a food isn’t about what has the trendiest label — it’s about what is balanced, proven, and appropriate for your pet.

Before making a diet change, have a conversation with your veterinarian. Your pet’s nutrition is one of the biggest pieces of their lifelong health puzzle. 🐶🐱

🐾 Tiny paws, BIG personality! 🐾

Look at this sweet little face! 😍 This little Frenchie puppy came in and absolutely stole the show with those big ears, blue eyes, and a personality bigger than her tiny body. 💕

Puppy visits are such an important part of setting your new family member up for success — getting them comfortable with the clinic, meeting the team, and making those first experiences positive helps create confident, happy pets for life! 🩺🐶

Welcome to the world, little one — we can’t wait to watch you grow! 🐾✨

🐈‍⬛ When you’re a tiny house panther but still need to make sure the humans are doing their jobs… 👀

This majestic little void was caught doing a very important quality control inspection from above. 😂 Cats may act like they run the house (because let’s be honest… they do), but those curious eyes and sneaky little personalities are part of what makes them so special.

Friendly reminder for all our feline friends: regular wellness exams help keep your kitty feeling their best, even when they’re busy supervising everyone else. 🖤🐾

🐾🎃 Meet Pumpkin: our fluffy orange clinic cat with a very important job… supervising everyone (and accepting compliments as payment). 🧡

This handsome senior gentleman has perfected the art of lounging, demanding attention, and reminding us that orange cats are truly their own kind of special. 😂 But as Pumpkin has gotten older, he’s also a great reminder of why senior pet care matters!

Did you know kidney disease is one of the most common conditions we see in older cats? 🐱 As cats age, their kidneys can slowly lose function, and many cats will hide signs until the disease is more advanced. Some things to watch for include:
✨ Drinking more water
✨ Urinating more often
✨ Weight loss
✨ Decreased appetite
✨ Vomiting or nausea
✨ Changes in energy or grooming habits

Routine senior bloodwork and urinalysis can help us catch changes early — because cats are experts at pretending they feel fine until they really don’t. 🐈‍⬛

So here’s to Pumpkin, our fluffy orange reminder that growing older doesn’t mean slowing down… it just means more naps, more snacks, and more wellness checks. 🎃🧡

Give your senior kitty a little extra love today (and maybe a treat… Pumpkin approves). 😸

🐾 Kitten Season is Here in Indiana! 🐾

Spring and summer bring warmer weather… and lots of kittens! 🌷🐱 This time of year, animal shelters and rescues across Indiana see a huge increase in orphaned, stray, and unwanted kittens.

If you find kittens outdoors, remember:
🐾 Mom may be nearby and simply out searching for food.
🐾 Healthy, warm, quiet kittens are often best left alone while you observe from a distance.
🐾 Sick, injured, cold, or abandoned kittens may need immediate help.
🐾 Spaying and neutering is the most effective way to reduce pet overpopulation and prevent future litters.

Did you know? A single unspayed female cat can have multiple litters each year, and her offspring can begin reproducing when they’re only a few months old!

If you’ve recently welcomed a new kitten into your family, now is a great time to schedule their first veterinary visit. Early exams, vaccines, parasite prevention, and guidance on nutrition help set them up for a healthy life. ❤️

📸 Show us your kittens, foster babies, or former “kitten season” rescues in the comments!

Meet Cletus!

While we primarily see dogs and cats, we do occasionally offer beak trims for well-behaved feathered friends!

Cletus recently stopped by for a beak trim, and he was an absolute gentleman from start to finish. He quickly became a staff favorite with his calm attitude, good manners, and charming personality. Needless to say, he received plenty of attention during his visit!

A properly maintained beak is important for a bird’s comfort and ability to eat, groom, and interact with their environment. If you have questions about whether your bird may need a beak trim, give us a call and we’ll be happy to help.

We may be known for our canine and feline patients, but every now and then it’s nice to have a distinguished guest like Cletus stop by! ❤️🐦
