TLC Humane Society, legally recognized as Dahlonega - Lumpkin County Humane Society, was founded in 1977 and is Dahlonega, GA's only no-kill shelter. We are a licensed non-profit 501(c)3 rescue organization and have both dogs and cats available for adoption. The shelter sits on 5.87 acres of beautiful property which includes 3 dog parks, walking trails, a small block house with 2 cat rooms, a kitt

en room, quarantine and isolation runs, plus The Ruff House with 6 dog runs and the 12 dog run Carver Canine Castle for large dogs. As a private, non-profit organization, we are not affiliated with the ASPCA, Humane Society of the United States or Associated Humane Societies. TLC is not a government agency and receives no funding from federal, state or local governments. Our ability to care for the community’s animals is supported solely by adoption fees, donations, grants, bequests, and fundraisers. All contributions are tax-deductible (our federal tax id number is 58-1829089). We do our best to save as many animals as we can, but that's only possible with the help of our community and people like you. We are especially happy to find new volunteers who share our commitment to the animals of Lumpkin County and surrounding North Georgia area. We have so many people to thank for the howlingly good time that was Comedy for Canines at Canopy + The Roots last night! 🎤💕🐶

First and foremost, Brooke Barry is an absolute comedic gem. If you enjoy comedy, dogs, or, ideally, the perfect intersection of the two, do yourself a favor and seek her out! Also special thanks to Brooke’s rescue husband, Patrick, and rescue pups, Arlo and Jane 🐶🐶

Next up: Canopy + The Roots. If you haven’t seen a show there, grabbed a drink, taken a yoga class, or otherwise spent time in that space, you are truly missing out. GOOOOO! They’re wonderful, and we’re so grateful to have partnered with them.

A huge thank-you as well to everyone who donated raffle prizes and helped make the night extra special: Local Pup, Lolo’s, Big Creek Distilling, Jolie Day Spa, Flannel and Pearls, and Old Storehouse Art. We couldn’t have done it without your generosity!

Meet Sparrow! 💕🐦🐾

Sparrow is a rocket of curiosity and boundless energy, a fluffy white and tan Australian Shepherd pup with an almost comically oversized heart. Her name fits her perfectly: she’s quick as a flash, sharp, and constantly poised to take flight into the next great yard adventure.

With bright, intelligent eyes and a coat that feels like a cloud, Sparrow treats every moment as a full-throttle exploration. She’ll herd stray leaves, launch herself after sticks, and master a new trick with astonishing speed, often tackling all three in the span of a minute. She’s spirited, wickedly smart, and already displaying the deep loyalty of a born companion.

Sweet, lively, and overflowing with pure puppy enthusiasm, Sparrow is the perfect blend of Aussie brains and devoted heart. Get ready for a lifetime soundtracked by rapid tail-wags and joyful, gravity-defying leaps.

Sparrow’s adoption fee is $275 which includes the spay, microchip, Rabies vaccine, DAPP vaccines, Bordetella vaccine, heartworm test (if over 9 months old), and kept up to date on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention.

Join us this Thursday (TOMORROW!) for a night of big laughs and even bigger hearts at Canopy + The Roots! We’re hosting a comedy show featuring the hilarious Brooke Barry and every laugh helps support the TLC Humane Society.

As temperatures drop, animals face serious risks outdoors. Cold weather can cause hypothermia, frostbite, dehydration, and paw injuries from ice, salt, and chemicals. Wildlife, livestock, and pets all need extra care during winter months.

🐶 Protect your animals by:
• Providing warm, dry shelter away from wind and moisture
• Ensuring fresh, unfrozen water is always available
• Adding extra bedding or insulation
• Limiting time outdoors during extreme cold
• Checking paws for cracks, ice buildup, or chemical burns
• Increasing food intake when appropriate to help maintain body heat

🦌 For outdoor animals & wildlife:
Leave safe shelter areas, avoid disturbing resting animals, and never pour antifreeze or chemicals where animals can access them.

A few small actions can make a life-saving difference. Let’s look out for those who can’t speak for themselves this winter 🤍

Amazingly, Penelope has already found her forever home! 💕💕💕

We were all heartbroken by the circumstances that brought her back to the shelter, but after hearing her story, an incredible family stepped forward to give her the life she truly deserves. We’re overjoyed for Penelope and know her days ahead will be filled with love, comfort, and happiness.

It means the world to us to see her finally getting the peaceful, joyful future she’s always deserved.

HI FRIENDS!! It’s me, Pancake, but you can call me Harley because I’m fancy 💕🐶🐾

I just wanted to personally let you all know that I am THRIVING in my new life.

Like, tail-never-stops-wagging thriving.

For Thanksgiving, I went to this MAGICAL place called a “farm.” There were new dogs (10/10 sniff potential), giant weird dogs my human called “horses,” a couple of extremely fast tree-rats (you say squirrels, I say CHASE TARGETS), and possibly… maybe… a frog?? I’m not sure. Something jumped. I respected it.

OH, and the sticks! They’re so big here

Anyway, I’m just SO HAPPY with my person, and I wanted to boop your hearts with that same feeling going into the weekend.
