Caterpillar update!
Look at some of these fat little babies. They are getting big! I’ve lost a few little guys, I’m not sure if it’s a natural failure to thrive deal or overcrowding (I have since split them all up into several netted cages) but I have many big fat hungry caterpillars still.
I have been working on little art unfortunately due to life, but I should be posting some new pieces soon!

I ended up with well over 100 babies, i only lost a couple one day old babies so far. Right now the age range is 6 - 2 days old (they just kept coming) and my older babies are already in their second “instar” (note the black dots on their heads) ! They will molt 5 times before they pupate! Once they get a bit bigger I will transfer them into several mesh cages.

Oh dear. I seem to have entirely too many caterpillars 🫣 they just keep coming. I transferred all the hatched ones this morning into a larger container and now there’s already about 11 more in the container where I’m storing the eggs. In a few days when they move to their next phase I’ll place them in an even bigger container then into a netted cage in a few weeks time when they are large enough not to escape!

Luna moths have very short lives. They live for about a week, they don’t eat, and their only purpose is to mate. These guys fulfilled their purpose and laid 100+ eggs. And now a week later they have finished their life cycle. At the end of their lives, their color fades, and their wings tear. Since these are my first babies I’m going to preserve them and their cocoons and keep them for myself. My next generation I will continue to allow to die naturally and continue to make art with, which I will sell at a discount, due to their condition.
