✨ Patient Spotlight: Lilou’s Triumph Over FIP
When Lilou’s family noticed she was sleeping more than usual and had dilated, cloudy eyes, they knew something wasn’t right. At just 11 months old, this sweet domestic short hair kitty wasn’t acting like herself. Concerned, they brought her to see Dr. Atkins for answers. On presentation, Lilou was suddenly blind in both eyes. After thorough in-house diagnostics, Dr. Atkins recommended further testing to rule out infectious diseases.
The results supported a diagnosis of FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis), a viral disease that can cause serious issues in young cats. FIP is highly aggressive disease and requires quick, targeted treatment to improve outcomes. It was once VERY difficult to treat and most cats do not recover. However, in late 2024 a life saving treatment was approved in the US.
Thanks to quick action, Lilou was started on the first US regulated FIP oral medication, which has been an amazing game changer in combating FIP! We're thrilled to share that Lilou now has normal vision and she is doing very well! Her amazing recovery is a testament to both her resilience and the dedication of her wonderful owners. We look forward to many more healthy years ahead with Lilou! 💛🐾
