Riding from the leg doesn’t mean keeping your leg on constantly — it’s the opposite.
A leg that’s always on only dulls the horse.

True mastery is using your leg as little as possible, but as much as necessary. The release is just as important as the aid itself. Aim to apply your leg with:

🧠 The precision of a brain surgeon

👩‍🏫 The compassion of a teacher

🐱 The quiet presence of a cat in the sun

💫 Horse Show Recap 💫

Just me and my Sir Baby (Furst Sir Prize) went to Loch Moy Dressage Festival 3&4 this weekend and had a blast!

Training 3 - 77.4% and 77.2%
First 2 - 75.909% and 73.182%

He got a bunch of high scores, and this was a partner show with the National Dressage Pony Cup so we got more of Jenny’s gorgeous ribbons!

Most importantly - it was just us and we got so much hang out time together. It’s amazing how connected a human can feel to another species. He is such a blessing.

The cherry 🍒 on top of an amazing weekend was seeing Kynynmont Brénainn and Joanne Pedone put down a solid Third Level test. I sold Buddy to Joanne a few years ago and he had completely blossomed with her and was SO so happy. The last time I saw him in person we were excited if he picked up the correct lead, and now he is doing flying changes!!

And the show staff and volunteers were outstanding - all very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful 😊 it’s amazing how perfect strangers can do so much for you to have a great time with your horse!

🩵 Look at the whole horse.

💙 Work with each individual.

🩵 Think of the whole body.

Don’t assume that every horse with a high poll is correct, and don’t assume that a horse that is low and round is incorrect. You have to look at the state of the horse’s *back* to truly judge how correct it is.

The horse’s back should be relaxed, swinging, and elevated under the saddle, rather than still and hollow. When the horse’s back is properly “up” (arched upwards under the rider’s seat,) he will be correctly seeking the connection. And this can be achieved with many different relative heights of the horse’s neck.

Never forget that it is equally as damaging to horses to ride them with a high head and neck with a *hollow back* as it is to ride a horse cranked down in Rollkur.

I have a very special boy looking for his perfect non-riding home. His name is Kaden – some of you may remember him from the Connection reel that so many of you kindly commented on.

Kaden has bone cysts in both stifles. We’ve treated him with injections, and while there are other options we could explore, we unfortunately aren’t in a position to do so.

What Kaden is absolutely perfect for is being the sweetest pasture buddy. He gets along with just about everyone, does well on either day turnout or 24/7 turnout, and loves his people with his whole heart (as you can see in this video!).

If you’re looking for a gentle, loving companion to brighten your pasture, Kaden might be your guy. 🩵 located in Lancaster PA. Yes, he is “free” but as we all know, it takes a lot to keep horses alive and thriving, and we will be vetting prospective homes.

Adjusting your horse - and yourself - isn’t about punishment — it’s about recalibration. 🧭

♥️ Horse drifting to the outside? Recalibrate straightness with your outside aids. Don’t attack or blame.

💙 Too much tension? Recalibrate the tone of the conversation (this can be as simple as smiling 🙂 ) to promote softness and relaxation. Don’t give up but don’t stress out.

♥️ Tempo too quick? Recalibrate with the swing of your hips. Don’t yank on the reins.

If your upper body becomes cattywampus, it’s a clear sign your horse either isn’t hearing or isn’t listening to your lower body aids.

Yes, cattywampus is a word and it’s fabulous 😉

Any of my jumping / eventing friends interested in a fabulous horse?

Don Kayden KF (aka Honey Roasted, Honey Bear, Honey Bum)

2018, warmblood gelding (Don Nobless x R Johnson), Located in Lancaster PA.

Honey is not happy being packaged for dressage but seems to really take to the jumping (in dressage tack with a dressage rider...). He is sometimes sticky to the leg and may kick out or buck when asked to initially go forward but the more he jumps the better that gets. However, he has a real engine once he gets going!

Super quality mover - so much so that he put some babies on the ground before being gelded. No stud behavior at all - it’s like he never had them 🥜.

Loves loves loves his people. Loads great. He has not ridden off property, has not jumped anything other than a single because I honestly don't know what l'm doing in that arena and I dont want to risk ruining him.

166cm, barefoot, no soundness issues, does have history of ulcers but really happy since being taken off grain. Currently on overnight turnout with a Buddy.

His lack of life experience is my fault, not his. Send me to jail but don't take it out on him.

Twenty 🥕 to match his series qualify but his lack of training over fences. Wonderful opportunity for a pro or confident AA.

We are looking for a stress free sale - we have some jump equipment at our property and you are welcome to come try him and jump him here. We will not be taking him off property to school courses, no trials, etc.
