We’d like to introduce you to Greta, Dr. Emma and Dr. Brian’s older Maremma sheepdog! Today is her 12th birthday!!!

As our dogs get older, it’s easy to assume that they’re just slowing down or “getting old,” but getting older is a journey—not a disease!

There are many things we can do to help our dogs feel their best and enjoy their golden years, including:
🩺 Regular wellness exams
🩸 Yearly bloodwork to look for changes we may not be able to see from the outside
🦷 Dental care
🦴 Addressing arthritis, pain, and mobility changes
⚖️ Maintaining a healthy weight

For many dogs, 7–8 years old is a great time to start paying a little closer attention to their health. Larger breeds may enter their senior years even earlier. Starting these conversations while your dog is still feeling good gives us a better chance to catch changes early!

It’s finally warming up! Cider is ready for a day on the water—and he's dressed for the occasion in his life jacket!

Whether you're boating, hiking, or spending the day at the lake, don't forget that summer heat and water can pose serious risks for our furry family members.

💧 Bring plenty of fresh water.
🧡 Use a properly fitted life jacket—even strong swimmers can become tired or fall unexpectedly. We’re happy to offer recommendations!
🌡️ Avoid the hottest part of the day, especially if your pet is older.
🏖️ Take frequent breaks in the shade.
👀 Always supervise dogs around water.
🧊 Try a safe frozen snack like ice cubes or frozen blueberries.

Does your cat wear a breakaway collar? These are the safest option for cats that explore the great outdoors but they can come off leaving your cat without their identification!

Microchipping your pet is the best way to help them find their way back home - even without their collar. If you find a friendly neighborhood critter, have it checked for a microchip to make sure another family isn’t missing them!

Fun fact: the microchips we use also take your pets temperature!
