Subtle cues expose what horses truly notice. Horses watch people far more closely than most riders realize. Long before a human reaches out a hand or tightens a lead rope, the horse has already formed an impression through small cues we barely register. Researchers studying herd communication found....

15 Fascinating Facts About the Horse's Heart and Its Emotional Connection with Humans:

The heart of an average adult horse weighs about 4–5 kg — nearly 10 times heavier than a human heart.

A horse's resting heart rate is around 28–40 beats per minute, but it can rise up to 240 during stress or intense activity.

The horse's heart is incredibly powerful — it can pump over 60 liters of blood per minute during running.

Human emotions can affect a horse's heart rate. Studies show that horses "read" human moods and mirror them.

During calm interaction, the heart rates of the human and horse can synchronize — a phenomenon known as bioelectrical resonance.

Horses sense a person's presence even before physical contact — their heart reacts to energy changes nearby.

A horse's heart generates a strong electromagnetic field, capable of transmitting emotional signals to other horses and even people.

Horses have a highly developed parasympathetic system, allowing them to calm down quickly in a safe environment.

A handler’s anxiety or fear can trigger stress in the horse — even if no real threat is present.

During cuddling or quiet companionship, a horse’s heartbeat slows down — a clear sign of trust.

Young horses experience emotional “storms” more frequently — much like humans, their hearts and nervous systems are still developing.

Trauma can leave an "emotional imprint" on a horse's heartbeat, even long after physical recovery.

Horses have the ability for emotional healing — kind and caring human contact can stabilize their heartbeat.

The horse’s heart is often seen as a symbol of deep intuition — horses can "feel" intentions before a word is spoken.

Scientific studies confirm that the emotional bond between human and horse is not a myth — it's a real physiological interaction of hearts, which can even have healing effects

Certified Herd to Human Instructor

Elizabeth wears many hats as barn manager at Dauntless Equine, a wife and a mother. A born and raised Montanan she has been around horses her entire life spending many hours on the trails with her father.

As well as countless hours in 4-H and open horse shows with her mom. It was through this that she discovered the power of healing through the horse and how it could help others.

Although she enjoys many of the wonderful things Montana has to offer nothing tops her passion for horses, which is evident in how they permeate all parts of her life.

Elizabeth continues to pursue the field of interspecies communication to better provide a place where people from all walks of life can connect through the power of the horse. Elizabeth is currently providing service at Dauntless Equine inc. in Kalispell MT.

𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝟐 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐝 𝟐 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬:
Hi, My name is Bev.

I have loved horses my whole life. Arabs growing up and Norwegian Fjord Horses as an adult. I live in Ennis, Montana where my husband and I bred, raised, and sold Fjord Horses for 25 years. We used the Fjords for riding and packing in our outfitting business in the Lee Metcalf Wilderness.

Being certified in Herd 2 Human since 2021 has been a ‘Deepening of Love and Wholeness’ through the heart connection with the horses. My goal is to help in the healing process with others, myself and the horse.

Mariah went through the Herd 2 Human program as a student in 2016. She has spent most of her professional career working with “troubled” youth, and knew right away that she needed to share this program with the young adults who are suffering in her community. In the fall of 2021, this dream became a reality when Mariah went through the Herd 2 Human certified instructor school. After completing school, Mariah created Amethyst Equine: A Herd 2 Human Program.

𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬: Herd 2 Human has nine instructors across Montana, here are two!
Brandy Kjensrud - Kalispell, Mt.
Brandy is a 5th generation Montanan, I began my cowgirl journey on my first horse “Star” before I turned 2. After a 40-year break, I re-entered the world of horse ownership when my little girl caught the bug. My husband and I now maintain a herd of 5ish quarter horses, and spend our time in the rodeo world.
I am a retired Deputy, with over 22 years of service. I was drawn to H2H because of my own experience of horses helping to heal my work-related trauma.

Scott Miller - Bridger, Mt.
Scott is a Sergeant Major – US Army Retired, rancher and County Commissioner of Carbon County, MT. While Scott’s focus is on veterans, he connects with our youth in an amazing way.
