Happy Father’s Day!

Today, we’re celebrating all the amazing dads both the ones raising children and the ones proudly carrying dog treats in every pocket.

To the dads who wake up early for walks, share their favorite chair, sneak extra treats when no one is looking, and provide endless belly rubs, thank you for the love, patience, and devotion you give every day.

Whether your kids have two legs or four paws, your care, protection, and unconditional love make a difference in their lives.

A Friendly Fourth of July Reminder

The Fourth of July can be one of the most stressful nights of the year for our pets. While we enjoy the celebrations, many dogs and cats experience anxiety from fireworks, loud noises, and unfamiliar activity.

If your pet takes medication for noise anxiety, now is the time to request refills. As we get closer to the holiday, pharmacies and veterinary hospitals often become busier, and we'd love to help make sure your pet is prepared well in advance.

A few ways to help your pet stay calm and safe:

🐾Keep pets indoors during fireworks and evening festivities.

🐾Create a quiet, comfortable space where they can relax.

🐾 Play white noise, calming music, or leave the TV on to help mask loud sounds.

🐾 Use anxiety aids such as a ThunderShirt or other calming garments if your pet responds well to them.

🐾 Make sure collars, tags, and microchip information are up to date in case a frightened pet slips out.

Every year, veterinary hospitals and shelters see an increase in lost pets around the Fourth of July. Taking a few simple precautions now can help keep your furry family members safe, comfortable, and at home where they belong.

Meet Mia!! This sweet 5-month-old Pit Bull mix has already beaten the odds and is ready to find the loving family she deserves. ❤️

She was surrendered after being diagnosed with parvo and spent several weeks in our hospital fighting to survive. Thanks to a lot of care, determination, and her incredible spirit, she made a full recovery and is now a happy, healthy puppy with a bright future ahead of her!

What Every Pet Owner Should Know About New World Screwworm

A parasite called the New World Screwworm has recently been detected. There have been 9 cases so far all in Texas and New Mexico in cows, goats, and 1 dog.

While there are currently no widespread cases in pets in the U.S., it’s a good reminder to pay close attention to any wounds on your animals.

What is a Screwworm?

Despite the name, screwworms are actually the larvae (maggots) of a type of fly. Female flies lay eggs in open wounds, surgical incisions, skin infections, or other moist areas. Once the eggs hatch, the larvae feed on living tissue, causing painful and potentially severe damage.

Pets Most at Risk are:
Dogs
Cats
Horses
Livestock
Wildlife

Any animal with an open wound can potentially be affected.

Signs to Watch For

✔ A wound that suddenly worsens
✔ Foul odor from a wound
✔ Excessive licking or chewing at an area
✔ Pain, swelling, or drainage
✔ Visible maggots in or around a wound
✔ Lethargy or decreased appetite

How to Protect Your Pets

✅ Check your pet regularly for cuts, scrapes, and skin irritations.
✅ Keep wounds clean and protected.
✅ Follow all post-surgical care instructions carefully.
✅ Seek veterinary attention promptly if a wound is not healing normally.
✅ Maintain regular parasite prevention and wellness care.

The Good News

The United States successfully eradicated New World Screwworm decades ago through aggressive control programs, and animal health officials continue to monitor for any new cases. Awareness and prompt wound care remain the best ways to protect our pets.

We had the sweetest Rottweiler puppies visit us for their wellness exams, vaccines, and deworming appointments this week!

While puppy visits are always full of cuddles and excitement, they're also one of the most important steps in building a foundation for a lifetime of health.

During puppy wellness visits, we help protect growing puppies from preventable diseases through vaccinations, screen for common parasites, monitor growth and development, and answer all of the questions that come with welcoming a new family member home.

But our conversations don't stop there. We also discuss nutrition, behavior, training, dental care, parasite prevention, spaying and neutering, and what proactive healthcare will look like as your puppy grows into an adult and eventually a senior pet.

Our goal is to partner with pet owners every step of the way so they have the knowledge and support they need to keep their pets happy, healthy, and thriving for years to come.

These adorable Rottweiler pups certainly stole our hearts, and we can't wait to watch them grow! ❤️
