The American Heartworm Society just released their 2025 prevalence map. Out area is seeing 1–6 heartworm cases per clinic. While that number is small, this disease is closer to home than ever before.

Here’s what you need to know:

• Heartworm is spread by mosquitoes—it only takes one bite
• Dogs AND cats are at risk
• Heartworm disease is serious (and costly) to treat
• Prevention is simple, safe, and far less expensive than treatment

💊 Year-round prevention is key
Heartworm prevention should be given every month, all year long—not just in summer—and paired with flea & tick prevention for full protection.

If you’re not sure what your pet needs or when they were last tested, we’re here to help!

📞 Call us to get your pet set up with prevention today, because protecting them is always easier than treating disease later.

Drum roll, please! The AHS has released their new heartworm incidence map and survey. The bad news? Heartworm disease is being diagnosed nationwide. The good news? Heartworm disease is PREVENTABLE. https://bit.ly/4c8QNj2

Have you noticed your pet drinking a lot more water lately?

Dr. Riedinger has diagnosed several new cases of diabetes in dogs and cats in just the past two weeks, so we wanted to share a few early warning signs that pet owners should watch for.

Common signs of diabetes in pets include:
• Drinking much more than usual
• Urinating more frequently or urinary accidents
• Increased appetite but weight loss
• Decreased energy
• Cloudy eyes (especially in dogs)

These signs can sometimes come on gradually, which makes them easy to overlook. Many owners just think their pet is “getting older.”

The good news is that diabetes is very manageable when caught early. With proper treatment and monitoring, many pets live happy, comfortable lives.

If you’ve noticed any of these changes in your dog or cat, let’s schedule an exam and bloodwork!

To help make small animal after-hours situations less stressful, we recently teamed up with Viking Veterinary Hospital Moscow to create magnets with both hospitals’ contact information. Whether your pet needs routine care during our hours or urgent care when we’re closed, you’ll always know where to turn!

Working together helps ensure your pet’s care stays connected, consistent, and focused on their well-being every step of the way.

Watch for these magnets at the clinic soon!

At Viking Vet, we believe comprehensive medicine is a team sport! 🐾🤝

Your general practice vet provides the vital, lifelong foundation for you pet - from preventative health to spay & neuter surgeries. We are here to pick up the baton the second their schedule is full or their doors close for the night (even Veterinarian's need days off).

We share medical records and treatment updates in real time with you GP. This ensures that when your pet leaves our emergency team, their care is seamless, uninterrupted, and truly comprehensive, with the 24/7 support that your pet deserves.

That's why when Rustebakke Veterinary Service mentioned partnering on magnets for their clients we were thrilled! This represents exactly what we are about, working alongside general practices to provide the most compassionate and comprehensive care to your beloved pets. 💚

Keep an eye out at Rustebakke's as these new magnets will be making an appearance soon! ✨
