The American Heartworm Society just released their 2025 prevalence map. Out area is seeing 1–6 heartworm cases per clinic. While that number is small, this disease is closer to home than ever before.

Here’s what you need to know:

• Heartworm is spread by mosquitoes—it only takes one bite
• Dogs AND cats are at risk
• Heartworm disease is serious (and costly) to treat
• Prevention is simple, safe, and far less expensive than treatment

💊 Year-round prevention is key
Heartworm prevention should be given every month, all year long—not just in summer—and paired with flea & tick prevention for full protection.

Today’s small animal lectures were all about dentistry; and if you know Dr. Riedinger, you know this is one of her favorite topics! 😄 She’s been soaking up everything she can and is so excited to bring back even more tooth-saving strategies to help keep your pets’ smiles healthy and pain-free.
