Important Equine Health Update - neurologic Equine Herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1)
While these outbreaks are not in our immediate region, we want to keep our Rustebakke community informed so you can make the best decisions for your horses.
Recently, cases of neurologic Equine Herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1) have been confirmed in horses who attended two large events: the WPRA Finals in Waco, TX, and the BFA World Championships in Guthrie, OK. Multiple horses from those events have tested positive, and unfortunately, several have passed away (final test results pending).
Even though these events are far from us, anyone who has traveled through or near these areas in the last 20 days should take extra precautions:
➡️ Quarantine exposed horses for 21 days
➡️ Check temperatures twice daily
➡️ Watch closely for symptoms such as fever, nasal discharge, weakness, or loss of coordination
➡️ Contact us right away if you notice anything concerning—we’re here to help
Additionally, Global Vet Link has cancelled all EECVIs nationwide and paused issuing new ones for 30 days as a precaution. We recommend keeping your horses home during this window.
If you do need to travel, we can still issue a one-way health certificate after an in-clinic exam.
