A few new faces have made their way into Northmen Exotics! 🐍

These Pueblan Milksnakes and Speckled Kingsnake were too good not to get a few pictures of. Between the bright reds and yellows of the milksnakes and the intricate patterning on the speckled king, there's a lot to appreciate about just how different snakes can be.

And they're not the only new arrivals!

We've also welcomed baby Carpet Pythons, Mexican Black Kingsnakes, some incredible Ball Pythons, more Jumping Spiders, Mantids, and White's Tree Frogs!

If you haven't stopped by in a while, come see who's new! Whether you're looking for your next animal or just enjoy learning about the different species we keep, there's always something worth checking out at Northmen Exotics. 🦎

Those eyes deserve a closer look. 👀

Gargoyle geckos have some of the most incredible eyes in the reptile world, and this little one certainly knows how to show them off!

Native to New Caledonia, gargoyle geckos get their name from the raised, horn-like bumps on their heads. Their colors and patterns are just as interesting, ranging from earthy browns and oranges to bold stripes and blotches.

They're also an excellent example of an arboreal gecko, using specialized toe pads and claws to navigate branches and other surfaces. And despite those impressive teeth in the last photo, they're primarily fruit and insect eaters!

Come see this little gargoyle for yourself at Northmen Exotics!

What's your favorite feature: those wild eyes, the orange coloration, or that impressive little smile? 🦎

A little sunshine with scales! ☀️🧡

Meet this gorgeous little lady, an Albino Western Hognose Snake!

Between her bright orange coloring, beautiful patterns, and that unmistakable upturned nose, she's quite the looker!

Western Hognoses are fascinating little snakes. Their signature upturned snouts aren't just for looks. They're specially adapted for digging through loose soil and sand, where they spend much of their time exploring and searching for food.

They're also known for their dramatic personalities! When startled, a hognose might flatten its neck, hiss, or even roll over and play dead. It's quite the performance from such a small snake.

And despite all that attitude, they're generally shy animals that would rather avoid confrontation.

She's here at Northmen Exotics, so stop by and meet her!

What do you think of her incredible orange coloring?

It's National Reptile Awareness Day, and we are celebrating! 🦎

October 21st is a day for reptile keepers, for the people who fight for these animals, and for the reptiles still living out in the wild. Plenty of them are misunderstood, some are threatened, and part of today is just shedding some light on why they aren't the scary cold-blooded critters people make them out to be.

Reptiles do real work in the world. Pest control. Food for other predators. They've also been popular pets since the 1960s, and the number of people keeping them has only grown since.

What we see changing is the questions. The more people learn, the better the questions new owners ask, about how to care for these animals and what they can do for them and their wild companions. That's a good direction, and it's worth a day.

So why does a day like this matter, and what do you think it takes for more people to see reptiles the way keepers do?

There's something about jumping spiders that makes people who don't like spiders stop for a second look. 🕷️

Those big eyes aren't just for show! Jumping spiders have incredible vision, and if you've ever had one turn around to look right at you, you know how curious these little guys can be. They've got a lot more personality than people expect from a spider.

We welcomed a group of captive-raised jumping spiders from Maverick The Jumping Spider in Colorado!

One of the great things about working with a breeder is knowing where your spiders came from, their care, and how they're feeding.

We brought in Maverick's bioactive and essentials enclosure kits too! We especially appreciate the front-opening design. Jumping spiders build their little silk hammocks near the top of their enclosures, so a front door keeps their homes undisturbed.

Huge thank you to Maverick for these amazing spiders and the thoughtfully designed setups!

Have you ever had a jumping spider turn around and look right back at you? 🕸️
