Yes! Sam and I, and other fitters, have conversations about this at least weekly. We really try to ease the client’s mind when their Morgan/Arab may end up in something called a “Baroque tree”, or your horse goes in an XW Prestige but a MW Loxley! We aren’t crazy, we promise- but sometimes the tree names and sizes seem to be. Thanks Sam for writing this all out after our series of voice notes back and forth yesterday as we both traveled.

Today was my first canter on my young horse (his 3rd time cantering with a human in the tack) and it was so nice to feel my saddle supporting my balance- which we know can be inconsistent on a wiggly young horse- but also allow me to move in the tack and not lock me in to one very “dressage-y” seat. I don’t love the idea of sitting DOWN and driving a green horse with my seat until we are BOTH strong and balanced enough to ride like that (we aren’t yet!), so I hover a bit in transitions and soften my seat a bunch while he is still figuring out his body and becoming steadier in the bridle. I want him to WANT to come up in the wither and push from behind and soften his neck to the contact. It’s really nice when my saddle is not in the way! I generally hate riding in dressage saddles because Im old and old fashioned, but I have been pleasantly surprised by this Loxley Dressage Mono. I ordered it as a fancy sparkly demo saddle, but it has fit us both really well so I’ve adopted it. Imagine….me in black Swarovski sparkle cantle and flap inlay and patent leather trim. My hunter trainer is rolling in his grave…(with his heels down probably) 🖤🐴🤣

My lovely friends at Mid Atlantic Saddlery and Tack Repair have solved a HUGE issue with storing and transporting saddles! These racks are sturdy, protect your valuable investment, and are PORTABLE and can be hung stallside over walls AND on grates like at VHC. They also work in your trailer! I am going to be carrying these for sale and using them in my shop as well. Let me know how many you need!
