40 Years of breeding, training, trialing, and hunting English Setters. Located in Canton, NY Specializing in Dog Training of all hunting breeds.

In 1974, I bought my first English Setter from Doctor David Gorman, Malone, NY. Dave was an avid field trialer and became my mentor. From that time forward, I was smitten with "longhairs". My first setters hunted and ran in small amateur field trials. Bitten by the field trial bug, I began to focus more on developing a setter that could compete on the major Northeast field trial circuit. Lightning Flash Setters were established, and the kennel consisted primarily of female English setters that were vigorously campaigned. The Lightning Flash Setter females began to be in high demand as brood bi***es to owners of winning stud dogs. A tradition of winning "long hairs" began. In the late 1970's, to the mid 1980's, Lightning Flash Setters won on a national stage from the grouse woods of the North to the bean fields of the South. We were fortunate to develop a line of English Setters that could both hunt for recreation and win in national field trials. Today, we're focusing solely on producing family hunting dogs. We are utilizing forty years experience to develop started English Setters that will not only hunt but will become loving, well-behaved household members.

Like we said before, it’s been a busy October thus far! The lightning flash crew headed up to the Green Mountain State to spend the first weekend of October running dogs and chasing wild birds with long time friend, trainer, and guide, Bob Arkley. This resulted in a lot of impressive dog work, some great exposure and contacts for the young dogs, and even a few birds in the bag.

It has been a busy first half of October for the Lightning Flash crew who took another opportunity to assist with a youth pheasant hunt. This time for the St.Lawrence Valley Sportsman Club. Same as before, it is always a great day when we get new hunters involved and get to share our love for these dogs and this sport.

Some of the Lightning Flash crew took the opportunity this weekend to assist the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation with another annual youth pheasant hunt. It was a good day of getting new hunters involved and sharing the love we have for this sport and these dogs. Excellent job from both dogs and handlers.
