Today, we were one of the random facilities that were blessed with a surprise inspection from the Pharmacy Board of Ohio. It went great! The reason I’m writing about it is because veterinary offices are often thought of being so different than human medical offices- the expectations are often very different. However, we are actually much more similar than people realize. We have laws and regulations that we have to follow from the DEA, the Pharmacy Board, the State of Ohio for radiology/licensing/etc. Did you know that when we dispense medications, they have to be counted by two different staff members? With controlled substances, one of the counters has to be myself, Dr. Carter. This is why we ask that you give us at least 24 hours to get your pet’s medications ready. It is to allow us time in between appointments, surgeries, emergencies, taking radiographs, drawing and running bloodwork, answering phones, placing catheters, cleaning kennels, sanitizing the clinic, handling humane cases, comforting patients, etc to get your pet’s medication ready, double count it, and double document it. We absolutely understand that sometimes life gets in the way and you need the medications right away, but we just ask that you are patient with us as we try to assist you. It is no different than taking your script to a human pharmacy, except that we are the pharmacy AND the doctor’s office. These laws are also why we have to see your pet on an annual basis to dispense medications. By law, we are not allowed to dispense medications if I haven’t examined the pet within the last 12 months. Trust me, we would love to make your lives easier! However, our hands are tied at times. I hope this helps explain some things and maybe ease some frustrations. 🤞 ~ Dr. Carter

We have been missing Dr. Wade for a whole year now. 💔 We just wanted to remind everyone that we still have shirts available to support his endowment fund at humble creatures. They are $20 a piece and all profits go to his fund. This is the last batch we will be purchasing so once they're sold out they are GONE! We appreciate all the support and love everyone's showed for Dr. Wade and a cause we believe he'd be so proud of! ❤️ we all miss him dearly but he lives on through us every day ❤️

Today we lost one of our beloved office cats Leland 💔 He started out as Dr. Carter’s kitten 14yrs ago then graduated to an office cat eventually! He was a goofy guy, deaf, loved to be upside down, a little neurologic and did fancy circles! He was so loved by us all and we are sure going to miss him 💔🥹 RIP Leland ❤️
