This year I invested in some new stall banners for my two horses that show. They both had tin stall signs previously, but I thought banners may be a nice change and highly visual

What do you think? I created them using Canva and Adobe Express. Photos by Ivy Starnes

One horse. One rider. One partnership built over countless miles.

Fancy I Am "Callie" is a 2026 RMHA International Grand Championship contender for:
🏆 The Charles Kilburn Amateur Owned & Trained Special Versatility Award
🐴 Amateur Owner-Trainer Country Trail Pleasure
⭐ Amateur Western Pleasure

The Amateur Owner-Trainer division celebrates the special bond between horse and owner, and Callie has given her whole heart every step of the journey. We are honored to make the trip to Kentucky and represent Texas on the International stage.

Wish us luck as we chase our dreams at the Kentucky Horse Park! 💙🐴

Representing Ruffled Feathers Ranch and proudly campaigned by Big Block Stables & LaTasha Johnson, "Natty" RFR America's Native Spirit, will take on the Country Trail and Western Pleasure divisions as he steps onto one of the biggest stages in the Rocky Mountain Horse world.

From his Texas roots to the Kentucky show ring, this young stallion has already come a long way and we’re incredibly proud to watch him continue to grow and shine.

The big show starts September 2nd. Now the only thing left to say is…

Go Natty! Bring on the big show!

It's been blistering hot here and I'm thankful for the broad leaf oak trees we have for shade, but days like this, they need a little extra!

what do you do for your horses when it's extra hot out?

One of the versatility classes held at our upcoming RMHA International Grand Championship show is Gaited Pole Bending.

We need to practice that 2nd turn and crank up our speed if possible since it is also timed, but Callie loves to "turn and burn" when she can lol

Natty was ridden by Logan at the fun show last night. They look nice together! Logan likes riding Natty. Who can blame him? He's super smooth! LaTasha Johnson

It is finally going to be below 100° today, so we are back to doing the rail work! It's been too hot in the evening to practice, but it's getting down to the wire now with the RMHA International Grand Championships starting Sept 2nd!

Being an out of state International Grand Championship contender as an Amateur Owner Trainer isn't for the faint of heart.

For those of us who live far removed from the heart of the gaited horse world, being competitive comes with challenges that many people never see.

It's an 850 mile trip one way. We haul our horses, tack, feed, grooming supplies, fans, show clothes, tack room setup, banners, and everything else needed for several days at the show. By the time we arrive, we're already tired before we ever setup our living space for the week and step into the ring.

When the show is over, there's no time to relax. We get a few hours of sleep and the very next morning we tear down our tack room, load everything back into the trailer, and then head 850 miles back home.

For me, this is usually a one woman operation. I don't have a barn family helping me. I'm the one packing, driving, unloading, setting up, caring for the horses, showing, packing everything back up, and driving home again.

Showing at this level is brutally expensive. Fuel, entry fees, stalls, shavings, feed, and countless other expenses add up fast. Yet I continue to make the trip because I believe in this breed and I believe in supporting our association.

Have I won much? Not really.

The highest ribbon I've earned at the International Grand Championship was a third place in the Novice division in 2020. Most years, we don't come home with any accolades.

But I keep coming back when I can.

Not because ribbons define success, but because I love my horses. Every mile, every dollar, every early morning and late night is worth it for the opportunity to represent my Rocky Mountain Horses at the highest level for our breed.

Win or lose, I'll always be proud of the horses standing beside me. They give me everything they have, and that's enough to make the journey worthwhile.

Sometimes, the greatest accomplishment isn't the ribbon. It's simply having the determination to make the trip, walk through the gate, and give it your best.

(PFA from our 1st international in 2020. We've both changed a lot since then.)
