I added a few more chickens to our flock, so the grandkids helped put up a solar predator-guard fence around the coop. Now the chickens can safely get out and enjoy a little extra room while we wait for my new Front Extra Run to be built! 🐓❤️

PRETTY IS IMPORTANT.
PREDATOR PROTECTION IS NON-NEGOTIABLE.

Chicken wire was designed to keep chickens IN.
It was never designed to keep predators OUT.

A determined raccoon, dog, coyote, fox—or other predator—can make short work of lightweight chicken wire.

That’s why Chick Chick Coop uses ½” × 1”, 16-gauge galvanized commercial-grade welded wire on our coops. The lower the number of gauge, the stronger the gauge.

Why does that matter?

✅ 16-gauge wire is heavier and stronger than the lightweight wire commonly used on many coops.
✅ The ½” × 1” openings make it much harder for predators to reach through or get a grip on the wire.
✅ Welded construction creates a strong, rigid barrier instead of flexible twisted chicken wire.
✅ Galvanized commercial-grade wire is made to stand up to years of outdoor exposure.

When you’re protecting your flock, the wire surrounding them isn’t the place to cut corners.

You may not notice the difference between 16-gauge welded wire and ordinary chicken wire when you’re looking at a pretty coop during the day…

But the predator that comes looking at 2 a.m. will.
