Like the cobbler whose children have no shoes… we’ve been needing an extra run for our own coop!

Time just hasn’t allowed us to get it done, so today we improvised—and it turned into something really special.

5 of our 6 greatest grandsons came over and helped us set up a small solar electric fence to buy us some time. These boys jumped right in, worked hard, and made it happen. Nothing better than time like this together ❤️

I moved our 3 Sebastopol geese into the original standard coop and combined all 24 hens into the large coop. Since we don’t let them free range during the day, I’ve already got an order in for the extra run.

This temporary fencing will do the job just fine until we get it installed—but I sure am looking forward to having it finished!

If you need more room for your hens, consider adding our front extra run—they are wonderful! It allows for more chickens while still giving them time in the sunshine, all while staying protected. The wire roof helps keep predators out, and the coop is still easy to move.

We’ll be at the Central Arkansas Homestead Conference (Conway Expo Center in Conway, Arkansas) this Friday (4/17, 12–8PM) and Saturday (4/18, 9–5PM)—and we’re bringing our Chick Chick Coop with us.
