🎃🐾 Halloween is almost here — and while it’s one of the most fun nights of the year for us, it can be a little tricky for our furry friends! 👻💛
Before the ghosts, goblins, and trick-or-treaters make their way to your door, here are some important Halloween safety tips to help keep your pets safe, calm, and happy tomorrow night:
🍬 Keep the candy out of paws’ reach!
Chocolate, raisins, and sugar-free treats made with xylitol are toxic to pets — even in small amounts. Be sure to store all candy up high and out of sight. If you want your pet to join in on the fun, grab some special pet-safe treats instead!
🎭 Costumes are cute, but comfort comes first.
If your pet loves dressing up, great! Just make sure the costume fits properly, doesn’t restrict movement, breathing, or vision, and doesn’t have any small pieces that could be chewed off. For pets who aren’t fans of costumes, a festive collar or bandana is just as adorable!
🚪 Keep pets secure during trick-or-treat time.
With the door opening and closing all night, it’s easy for curious cats or dogs to slip out. Keep them in a quiet, secure room away from the front door with their favorite toys or bed. A little calm background noise (like a TV or white noise) can help ease the excitement outside.
🕯️ Decorate safely.
Pumpkins and candles look beautiful, but they can be dangerous around wagging tails or playful paws. Try battery-powered candles instead, and keep cords, glow sticks, and fake cobwebs safely out of reach.
🏠 Keep them indoors for the night.
Even the bravest pets can be frightened by all the new sounds, costumes, and flashing lights. It’s safest for everyone to stay cozy inside where it’s warm, calm, and treat-filled.
🪪 Double-check collars and microchips.
In case your pet does get spooked and run off, make sure their ID tags and microchip info are up to date. It’s a small step that makes a big difference in helping them find their way home.
✨ Halloween is meant to be full of fun — not frights — for every member of the family, furry ones included. By taking a few precautions, you can ensure your pets enjoy a safe and happy Halloween right alongside you.
From all of us at PAWS, have a spooky, safe, and sweet Halloween! 🎃🐶🐱💛
