Heartworm Prevention Month is here! This is one of those soap boxes that we stand on and speak to anyone that will listen - prevention is so much easier than treatment! The cost and risk of treatment is challenging so we recommend 12 month prevention with the product of your choice.
If you have adopted a dog from warmer climates where Heartworm is endemic, please, please, please retest your dog once they have been in your home for 6 months. It is possible for these animals to leave their rescue negative for heartworm but test positive later. This is due to the long prepatent period of the parasite and no fault of the rescue or owner.
We no longer have those nice long, cold, deep freeze winters so year round prevention is key. Call this office today if you have questions!
